    5. I bought this sword recently - having been informed that it had been in the seller's family for many years - and that they came from Switzerland. I think in fact that it is a German infantry or artillery officer's sword. Strangely there is no maker's mark or name. However, the name EDWIN is on one of the locket plates - and this usually indicates that it was given as a 'passing out' gift to a young officer. Have a look and seewhat you think ? .......................................http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-6209-0-07431200-1356616278.jpgclick..................................
    6. Audrey - I have just recommended your services to Gavin medals - see Brit. Medals. He has a lovely ww2 group from Bechuanaland. Send him your email. Mervyn
    7. Gavin - a lovely group and his research will be interesting. I would recommend Audrey - who is Rhino Research. She is a member of the Forum and lives in Jo'Burg. She has posted on our Medals section. Mervyn
    8. Paul or, Monty. Would one of you please review the book and do a report in our new books section - some where below the Lounge. We must always support our own members. Mervyn
    9. Dirk - welcome to GMIC - we have another shoulder board collector in Singapore so, you are not alone. Look back on this section and you should find some of his posts. With regard to the Commodore's insignia - I always thought two stars represented a rear admiral ? Mervyn
    10. Windu - your coin may be from Yemen - but not the medal - the numeral is not an Arab one. Can't make out the other details.
    11. It seems to 'ring a bell' that it may be East European. Can any Members assist ?
    12. Ilja - from my understanding this seems to be a new Order to reward members of a coalition of Police Forces from the US and from South America. The one you show seems to be the top award - I very much doubt that the wreath is going to remain in this vulnerable position on the top. Perhaps you could explain a little more about it - and who exactly will be the recipients ? Mervyn
    13. Mike - one of our few unanswered questions - I am bringing it back to top to see if any one can help.
    14. Tony - I'm bringing this back to the top to see if anyone can answer your questions.
    15. Thankyou Jean-Paul. A Commonwealth Country and therefore of interest on this section. When you see the full dress uniform of the Jamaica Regiment, it is a reminder of their long service to the Crown. Compliments of the season to you and your family. Mervyn
    16. I can't see any reference to the cost for accessing these files ? Mervyn
    17. Hugh - it has a Queen's crown - so, 1952 to 1994. I am suspecting that they may have been close to the closure. Hopefully a Member will have some further info. ? Compliments of the Season to you and your Family. Mervyn

    20. Raised in 1794 as the 100th of Foot , this was changed in 1798 to the 92nd, Regiment of Foot. The Duke of Gordon founded the Regiment. 1881 under the Cardew reforms they became the Gordon Highlanders and they were a famous Regiment, with many Battle Honours from the Boer War, WW1 and WW2. However, they suffered the fate of so many British units and lost their identity in 1994. Being Scottish they obviously had a pipe and drum band and this unusual Banner was to hang from the long chanter of a set of bagpipes. That is the top one of the three and it it hung down the back of the left shoulder. Double sided, it is beautifully embroidered and includes the Regimental motton 'By Dand' and the Stag. ..................................................http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-6209-0-28732200-1356196906.jpgclick.....................................
    21. Hampshire - Hertfordshire + there must be other Counties starting with an 'H' - just can't think of them. Mervyn
    22. Prussian -- I am sure someone will be able to help - you may just have to wait until the holidays are finished. Please let me know if I can be of help with the National Archives medal chart - I would be happy to send them a cheque and have them send it to you direct. Let me know ? Best wishes for the Season. Mervyn
    23. Simon - great to see you back on the Forum. I hope everything has been well with you ? Best wishes for the Season. Mervyn
    24. Blueman - I am wondering why you have posted this artillery helmet under Aust. and NZ ? Is there anything on the helmet to indicate this ?
