kunsho replied to Stogieman's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
...and another 1813 "prinzen"...(sorry I have made the photos actually only for a test of the background...in fact of this unfortunately the ribbon is somewhat more sharply then then the cross, but I did not want to withhold the pictures from you) Regards Matthias -
The quality of the photos is fantastic (nice piece also) ! Matthias

..and the reverse (look at the ribbed wire at the lower side of the cross - normally "made in germany" looks better :-)... -

Here comes another one with "handmade" verge of the ribbed wire... In my opinion one of the very early ones... Best regards Matthias -
:-) Terry, that left no peace to you now... The (at the EK attached) eye sinks with my copy also not completely in the recess planned for it. So this is not an "out" criterion. Maybe your inlay is a little carelessly manufactured....but be sure that kind of case is made for the prussian ones (and in my opinion also the cases of this type shown by Allan -very nice collection, indeed!- ) I must still smile that my comments let you no rest and you've managed (despite all adversities) to get a "KO" to put it in your case. Very best regards Matthias

...and the recipient: G?nter Wagner I have posted the (complete) picture already in "Sal Williams traeger collection", sorry for the redudance, but I thought that so it will be better for viewing... Matthias

...the complete different catch...(texture of the cover is very similar to the first shown case here). However that was the last one (:-) Matthias

I have one more ... This is the very similar type of the obove case for the "third programm" Iron Cross 2nd class.
-
Result: The shown and discussed case is for the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd class....not for the crosses of the "third programm"..
-
...and this is the recipient of the above shown Prussian Iron Cross 2nd class (his only medal): Alfred Keicher. One of my absolute favourite pictures - if that would have been the picture of the soldiers in the world, the wars would be soon terminated... Best regards Matthias

Yes I have one in my collection. I got the EK and the case direktly from the daughter of the recipient. In my case is a "KO" in. In my personal opinion is this case a kind of a "official" modell (all untouched examples of "crossandcase" I know are filled with "KO" pieces), maybe this typical case was the "official" one used by the Royal Mint in Stuttgart... These type cases comes in two variations, leather coated and the here shown type coated with a kind of "library linen", but the catch is allways the same. Best regards Matthias

It is a typical WW1 case for the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd class, try a few more crosses one of them will match... Best regards Matthias

Here an example of the Japanese wound badge for those wounded in battle, the "Sen Sho" (according to Peterson, Type II) Matthias

..one of the best indicators of older pieces are the thick of the material, in general you can say "older ones are thinner ones". However you shold have compared many pieces to indicate the old ones with one blink of an eye. The "Sacred Treasure" is (in my opinion) one of the most interesting orders of Japan, because of the number of the used symbols. Japanese orders are outstanding in simpleness of design which unites a maximum of symbols. Best regards Matthias
