    1. Almost never ending trickling in of Jamyan related items continues... now some documents and one medal ("World Peace Council" written in French on reverse, looks like 30th anniversary badge). 1. Document for the Order of the Glory Star of the Mongolian Defense Auxcilliary Society. Awarded to Jamyan in 2001. 2. Greeting Card frm the Chinese Ambassador Lee Zuitsin. The greeting card is hand signed. The Ambassador's name card is attached. 3. 1981 New Year Card by a North Korean Official. Hand signed. 4. Invitation to attend meeting on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of MPR. Dated Nov 10. 1984. 5. Invitation to attend the reception on the occasion of the same event. The World Peace Council seems to be an interesting organization dating back to the cold war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Peace_Council
    2. Here's a nice researched deputy badge (nr 0069) belonging to Ms. Dorjsereenen Ulzii. Born in 1928. "Elected" to Mongolian Communist Parliament in 1951 from Selenge province. I received a translation of the bio of the deputy Ulzii and the pages from the Deputy Registry pertaining to her. Comrade Ulzii qualified for nomination to Mongolia Communist Parliament in terms of her gender (women's quota), age (youth quota) and activism. She was elected to State Great Khural of MPR in 1951 and her term expired in 1954. The recommendation (dated 1953) of the local MPRP on her said that she has distanced herself from the public work, got married a wealthy person and left the "Red corner" after she became the SGH deputy and that therefore, she does not deserve to be renominated. The deputy registry referred to was made in 1954, right at the end of the term. It is an updated list and Comrade Ulzii was now classified as "unemployed". Which is weighty justification to be removed from renomination roster. A bit more info on Ulzii 69 Dorjsereenengiin Ulzii 1928 F Party Candidate Precinct 5, Orhontuul County, Selenge Province 54 Unemployed, Orhontuul County 69 is serial nr, 1928 date of birth, 54 refers to nr of livestock For those interested - data available for deputy badges 1-8 and 61-77. Longer bio on Ulzii "Dorjsereenengiin Ulzii Comrade Ulzii was born in a family of herder Dorjsereenen in Orhontuul county of Selenge province in 1928. Comrade Ulzii spent her childhood helping the parents and finished the primary school. Comrade Ulzii now works as the head of the “Red Corner” of the Orhontuul county and she fully mobilizes herself in political and public activities taking place in her county. Since taking over the work of the “Red Corner”, she has been consistently improving her knowledge and competency. She skillfully organizes the work of the “Red Corner” towards making the public familiar with the content of the revolutionary art, party and government policies, news on the international situation and developments in the field of education and science. The “Red Corner” under the leadership of comrade Ulzii unites 28 voluntary performers divided into 3 art groups. The groups perform on regular basis. In 1950, the “Red Corner” held 61 concerts and 12 lectures. Thanks to the efforts of Comrade Ulzii, the Orkhontuul county “Red Corner” became the best “Red Corner” of the province. Comrade Ulzii has worked as the Chair of the County Women’s Council for the last several years. She is highly respected by the women of the county for she exerts all her efforts towards increasing the involvement of women in the work of the “Red Corner” and the planned activities of the Orkhontuul county. Comrade Ulzii is a member of the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League (MRYL) and she is on a six month probation period as the candidate member of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party since 1950. Ulzii is one of the outstanding members of our glorious youth. She has been devotedly fulfilling the sacred obligations of the member of the party and MRYL. As one of the best girls of our Motherland, who distinguished herself with her activism and hard work, comrade Ulzii is nominated as the deputy of the State Great Khural of MPR by the herders and workers of Orhontuul county and Orhon state agricultural farm. Comrade Ulzii has devoted her life and work for the development of our Motherland. Comrade voters! Let’s vote for comrade Ulzii nominated by the coalition of members and non-members of the Party. "
    3. Congrats - nice set! Cased / documented "Distinguished in Science" title picked up on eBay recently - first time I've seen a document for one of these.
    4. Several books recently come out on the Dutch gendarmerie - posted pics of a big book a few months ago and here's another one focusing on Major Tiddo Reddingius. The small book was written by the husband of his grand daughter. Still need to read it but it looks like a nice (Dutch language) book for vacation by the pool.
    5. I underbid (still regretting that...) on a fantastic Dutch-Albanian set belonging to one of the gendarme members: Roelfsema. https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=1509&lot=405 Aside from the actual medals, it includes miniatures, ribbon bar and apparently also documents.
    6. Unfortunate that pics have disappeared from so many threads:(

    9. And here's another Partisan badge - nr 91, converted from a pinback to a screwback by the owner, the reverse also shows the recycled Badge of the Best Railway Worker relief. It belonged to Partison Lodon and he's mentioned in the big Partisan biographies book series - hope to have this translated in the future to get to know more about Lodon.
    10. The enamel is old but appears to be of relatively high quality - e.g. the different colors on the green leaves. It is gilded indeed and from my memory relatively heavy (although thin) - i'm on a business trip now and the item has already been safely stored so can't quickly check. Thanks to a forum friend who checked with somebody from Inner Mongolia, the translation of the inscription on the medal is confirmed as follows (reading both the Chinese and Old Mongolian writings): "Conference of the Confederation of the Mongolian Noblemen ( Vangs-kings and Gun-Dukes)".
    11. Thanks Gerd - welcome back and enjoy catching up with the many posts! Not so many new posts on Mongolian(-linked) awards but that makes it all the more interesting to check out when they do pop up.
    12. This is something very rare and special and I am not even 100% sure of what it exactly is. I branched out of my Mongolia collecting focus when acquiring this. Acquired it at auction and previously it was up for auction in 2008 - "World Orders - Collection Tammann", UBS Basel, November 2008, lot 318. It is bronze with remnants of gilding, beautifully enameled, inscription in Mongolian and in Han characters "Meng Gu Wang Gong Lian He Hui" (Union of Mongolian Princes and Dukes), with ribbon and clasp for wear. The historical background is not entirely clear and rather complicated but let me make a try. After the end of Chinese imperial rule in 1911, and with the support of Russia, Outer Mongolia (i.e. current day Mongolia, as opposed to Inner Mongolia which is an autonomous region within China) declared itself independent as southern provinces (Tibet, among others) also separated from China. Yuan Shikai, former prime minister under emperor Puyi and leader of the Beijing army, assumed the presidency of China from Sun Yat-sen (first Provisional President of the Republic of China) and attempted to draw the powerful nobles of the outer provinces to his side to try to restore a monarchy to China (with himself as the Emperor). In the Favourable Treatment Act of 1912 he guaranteed the child emperor Puyi (although now abdicated, he still retained his title) and all nobles the continuance of their rights and privileges. This badge is for one of those noblemen. In 1915 the Treaty of Kyakhta was signed between China, Russia and Outer Mongolia, whereby Inner Mongolia would become again a part of China and Outer Mongolia would become autonomous, but accepted as under Chinese supremacy.
    13. Cleaning up my archives and posting a lot of stuff which I hadn't posted yet. Here is a documented Friendship Medal - bought in Ukraine and eventually found its way to me. The medal was awarded in December 1967 to a Soviet specialist who worked in Mongolia. His name is Sorokin Yurii Evlampievich. The medal has a serial number 873. The serial number and the date of the award indicates that the medal belongs to one of the first recipients. The first 6000 Nairamdal medals were received by the Mongolian Supreme in October 1967. The Nairamdal Medal was instituted in April 1967. The medal #873 was awarded on December 12, 1967. An attempt was made to research this medal and what came out was that the Decree #166 did not list the names but was generic. The decree was issued to award 924 Soviet military and civilian specialists and officials on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the October revolution. Among the 924 people, 878 people were awarded the Nairamdal Medals.
    14. Really annoying that so many old pictures have disappeared. Not just annoying for other readers but I was also kind of using GMIC as my online archive and having pics here made it easy to quickly recognize groups, documents, etc. As this was such a special document I'll post it again.
    15. An incomplete but interesting group of documented awards that belonged to Toomoin Luvsandorj. Tomoin Luvsandorj held a rank of Lt. Colonel and served in the Border Guard Troops from mid 1930s to mid 1950s and returned to serve in the Mongolian Army back in 1960s. He was a Political Commissar of a Border Guard unit in Khalkhin Gol area (Tamsag Border guard unit) in 1939 and took part in the battle of Khalkhin Gol. The group consists of the following items: 1) Khalkhin Gol badge (Type 1) in very good condition (almost excellent for this early award). The badge has its original screwback plate. The badge has an early hardcover document with his name and signature of Deputy commander of Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army Lhagvasuren. 2) Order and Medal Booklet issued to Luvsandorj. The booklet has his early picture and lists two awards (Order of the Polar Star awarded in 1951 and Combat Medal in 1947). Unfortunately the order and medal are missing. 3) Green fabric covered document is a certificate of appreciation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The booklet is in fair condition but preserved all the handwriting and Choibalsan's original signature. The booklet was awarded to Luvsandorj on November 22, 1937. The text of the document reads "Comrade Livsandorj awarded this certificate and a breast watch for the excellent fulfillment of the tasks specified in the Ministry's decree #239 issued on November 9, 1937". Signed by Minister of Internal affairs Marshal Choibalsan. Bears the stamp of the ministry. Unfortunately it is not know what was behind the decree #239. It is interesting to note that he was awarded this certificate at the climax of purges among the army and border guard troops. 4) Brown leather covered document is certificate of appreciation issued by the Department of Border Guard troops on Dec 30, 1951. The text of the document reads that T. Luvsandorj was awarded this certificate and a breast watch for exemplary service in the matter of protecting the state border. Interestingly, the document was presented and hand signed by Jamyan who held the rank of Deputy Commander of the Department of Border Guard troops. The doc has the stamp of the same department. 5) The red leather covered small document is a Border Guard Officer's ID card issued on December 25, 1941. The document has Luvsandorj's picture. He wears 1936 type officer's uniform with captain's collar insignia. 6) We Won Medal #10680 with the matching document. 7) Medal of 25 Years of Revolution # 16044 with the matching document. 8) Soviet Medal for victory over Germany with the doc. 9) Document of the Medal of 60 Years of Revolution. 10) Document of the 30th anniversary of victory over Japan Medal. 11) Document of the 30th anniversary of victory at Khakhin Gol. 12) Badge Dursamj (Memory) with the matching doc. Awarded in 1985 to veterans of the "Memory" history tour to the battle site. 13) Badge of 50 Years to Mongolia Trade Unions with the matching doc. 14) Badge MIAT (Mongolian Airways) with a document awarded in 1985. 15) Badge of 18th Congress of MRYL with the document. Attached also two pics - one shows Luvsandorj wearing his uniform back in 1970s. Then he held the rank of a Major. Another photo scan is from an album of the participants of Khalkhin Gol war from the Border Guard Troops. It is heavily photoshoped photo (to make it look like a color one) but still he is there. Here is also a brief bio of Tomooin Luvsandorj: "T. Luvsandorj is a native of Hairhandulaan county of Uvurkhangai province. He participated in the battle of Khalkhin gol when he was a political commissar of Tamsag Border Guard Unit. in 1939. He personally took part in elimination of Japanese troops at Ulaanhudag, Ar Bulag, Hulstai, Hongor and Bula Ders areas in eastern Mongolia in 1939. From 1940-1946, he served as apolitical commissar at Khovd Border Guard Unit in Western Mongolia. There, he took part in border skirmished against Chinese and Kazakh bandit groups."
    16. Thanks - my eyes aren't good enough for this and I don't have my magnifying glass with me. Will have a look next time.
    17. Thanks - where would I find the maker marks? Is there a good website which documents all types?
    18. Anybody have an idea of what that 3rd medal on the far right is?
    19. Here's a group of documents that belonged to Border Guard Officer Major Ishdorj Nergui (born 1914) . He served for the Border Guard Troops of Ministry of Internal Affairs of MPR from 1936 till 1952. He was drafted to military service in 1936 and was promoted to Deputy and later Commander of Border outpost in Eastern Mongolia. he then moved up until he was discharged from active military service in 1952. Judging from his award documents, he took part in 1945 war against Japan. The group (missing all the awards) includes the following: 1) 1940s Mongolian Army Officer's ID document with Old Mongolian text. The document dates May 5 1941 and was issued to Political commissar Ishdorj Nergui. 2) 1950 Border Guard Officer ID document in Cyrillic Mongolian. The document has a photo of Ishdorj Nergui in military uniform. The document indicates that he held the position of the deputy chief of sub-division of Cadre (human resource) division of Border Guard Department. The same document lists his awards (2 combat Medals, Mongol and Soviet Victory over Japan Medals, Medal of 25 Years to MPR). 3) Order and Medal Booklet with the photo of Isdorj Nergui in military uniform. The booklet also has the serial numbers, date and names of his awards (2 Combat Medals and one Order of the Polar Star). 4) Document of the Badge of Excellent Border Guard with serial number 890 awarded in 1951. 5) Document of the Mongolia Medal for Victory over Japan 6) Document of the Soviet Medal for Victory over Japan 7) Document of the Medal of 25 Years to MPR 8) Document of the Medal of 30th anniversary of Victory at Khalkhingol. 9) Document of the Medal of 60 Years to Armed Forces 10) Invitation of local Government to the celebrations of 66th anniversary of Mongolian People's Army (dated March 16, 1987) 11) Last but not least, the document issued by the Commander of Border Guard Unit #20 Colonel Sainbuyan and Chief of Staff Captian Darjaa to comrade Nergui certifying that he owns binoculars purchased from the military store of a Red Army Unit located in the area and he is allowed to use this binoculars for service and personal purposes. The document dated June 5, 1938. The document is handsigned and bears beautiful stamp print of the Ministry of Internal Affairs-Border Guard Unit in Erdenetsagaan (current Sukhbaatar province).
    20. Immense amounts of material related to this Jamyan group which I've not yet posted and will show some of this. The VERY big and heavy badge is from the Defense Auxiliary Society. Underneath it is a load of post cards that belonged to Lt. Gen. Jamyan. Scan of some of them... Scan "Postcard 1": shows a New Year greeting from Chairman of Bulgarian Parliament Stanko Todorov (his original signature is present). Envelope is missing. The same scan show a March 8 postcard from Mongolian Women's Committee. It has Jamyan's name written on top of the card. Beautiful Mongolian made card. The Front is not shown on the scan. Scan "Postcard 2": shows a Mongolian postcard with a women. Inside page bears three unidentified signatures. There is a postcard with Mongolian 1960 Coats of Arms with a hand signature of P.Ochirbat (then Minister of Mining and Geology and later President of Mongolian People's Republic /I hope I am not wrong but will let you know with confirmation/) and a blue New Year greeting card from UB MPRP committee (signed). Scan "Postcard 3": Shows signed 1980 New Year Card with the depiction of the Government House and Statue of Sukhbaatar. Below this post card is a 1985 New Year Greeting card from the Member of Politburo of Central Committee of MPRP and First Secretary of UB party commitee B. Altangerel. (Top number 3 guy in Party system back in 1980s). The card is not signed, probably carried a name card which is, unfortunately, missing. Scan "Postcard 4": Show a Supreme Soviet building and USSR Coats of Arms on cover page and a New Year Greeting with a facsimile signature of a Soviet official. There is also 1983 New Year greeting Mongolian card. Scan "Postcard 5": Shows New Year greeting to a member of the 18th Party Congress (of which Jamyan was a delegate and 60 Year to Police greeting card from the Party committee of Ministry of Public security) Scan "Postcard 6": Post card of two Soviet Cosmonauts Belyaev and Leonov with their original signatures on the front. Belyaev's signature is well preserved as he signed in ballpoint pen. Leonov's is partially missing as his signature is done in ink. (I compared the signatures over the internet, they are original). Below this card, is post card issued in 1981 on occasion of the Mongol-Soviet space flight. It has no signatures. Many of the postcards are high-end top government/party postcards that were not in sale and were made only of the order of the party committee and state organization.
    21. 1) Badge of the Excellent Border Guard with the paperback document. The certificate is dated 1995 with the signature of Commander of Border Guard Troops Major General P. Sundev. 2) Honorary Badge of the Civil Defense of MPR with the red leather document. The certificate is dated 1974 with the signature of Chief of Department of Civil Defense of MPR Lt. General J. Jamyan 3) Badge of the 60th anniversary of Mongolian Pioneer Organisation with the paperback document. Awarded in 1985 and signed by the Chairwoman of Mongolian Pioneer Organisation Ch. Tserendulam 4) Badge of the care-taker of the Young Generation with the document. Awarded in 2010. 5) Leather cover document of the Honorary Badge of the Mongolian Red Cross Society. Awarded in 2008. They simply glued new page and used the old doc cover. 6) Document of the Honorary badge of the Mongolian trade union. Awarded in 2005. The badge is missing. 7) Document of the Badge of Master of Sports of Mongolia in Mountain Climbing. Awarded in 2003 by the Altai Mountain Climbing Club. The pass prolonged till the end of 1981 and 1982. 9) The credentials of the delegate to MPRP Congress from Sukhbaatar province. The dark blue colored document is dated May 13, 1971. 10) The ID document of the correspondent/journalist of the "Care-taker" newspaper under the Ministry of Military Affairs and Public Security of MPR. Date Feb 17, 1959. The doc reads "Reporter Damba Dorj has a right to access the labor camps and prisons for the purpose of taking interviews. Signed by the Editor of the newspaper. 11) Last but not least, Motorbike driving license belonging to Dorj. The license bears the photo of younger Dorj in his military uniform. the license issued by decree #25 on June 7, 1957 from the Department of Traffic Police. ============================= Here is also the translation of the bio of Colonel Dorj from a book. Dorj was in fact awarded the Order of Sukhbaatar. It looks like that he had an impressive service and a man of many talents. "Colonel Damba Dorj was born in Bayan-Ovoo county of Bayankhongor province in 1923. He graduated from the Central School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1947. Colonel Dorj also graduated from the School under the Committee of State Security of USSR and the Party University respectively. He holds the profession of a lawyer. From 1947-1967, he served as the officer and later senior officer of Ministry of Internal Affairs at the Border guard unit #6, the officer at the Division of the Ministry of Public Security in Bayankhongor province, the officer at the Central HQ of the same Ministry and officer of the Special Division for Armed Forces. From 1967-1989, he headed the prisons in Bat-Ulziit County and Avrdrant County. He also headed the Central Prison. Colonel Dorj was awarded the Order of Sukhbaatar, the Order of the Red Banner of Military Valor and the Order of Combat Valor. He was also decorated with the Honorary Medal of Combat, Jubilee medals, the Honorary Chekist Badge, the Badge of Outstanding Employee of Correctional Service and the Badge of the Excellent Border Guard. Colonel Dorj has served as the Head of the detention facilities for 22 years and he has contributed enormously to the strengthening of the human resources of the correctional units. He was known to the public as the “grey headed colonel of correctional services”. Colonel D. Dorj recalls “ I took part in the border skirmishes in the western part of Mongolia at the end of 1940s. One day, a unit of ten soldiers including me received an order to apprehend a group of 7 Kazakh bandits that plundered and robbed a herder household. We have managed to catch up with the bandits and shot one of them. The remaining bandits had no choice but to flee and find a refuge beyond the state border. I was appointed as the Head of the prison in Bat-Ulzii County in 1967. Since then, I have devoted my entire life to the cause of the correctional services of Mongolia. I have headed the Bat-Ulzii prison for five years and then I was appointed as the Head of the Central Prison. I worked there for 10 years. 1982, I was tasked to build a maximum security Avdrant Prison and the Special Prison. During my service at Avdrant Prison, I initiated and implemented a project on building a stone and rock processing plant there. It became the largest plant of such kind in Mongolia. The Avdrant Prison was a compound of many buildings that included the prison building, the plant building, an office building and the personnel residences. I am still proud of my younger colleagues like Colonel Sandagsuren, Lt. Colonel Munkhjargal, Lt. Colonel Baatarjav, Major Tumurbaatar, Sergeant Gunchin and others. " “People remembered by their deeds” compiled by the Veterans’ Committee of Correctional Services of Mongolia. Published in Ulaanbaatar in 2007. Pages 20-21.
