Haha, infected by the Lippe-Detmold fever? The Leopold order merit medals were awarded for both (civil and military merit). For example a have a medalbar of a "Bezirksfeldwebel" with the silver medal and documents for a (civil) "Lakai". But it is more linked to a civil merit and therefore all Leopold-orders of all classes were never awarded with swords. BR Roman

Please be sure, this medalbar is making me crazy. When it came, there were only the merit medal Lippe-Detmold and the clasps mounted. Now I restored it and added everything, which was missing. But the long service award 1st class old style for 21 years (Prussia) at the end of the bar is making me crazy. Although it isn´t a big investment, I wasn´t able yet to find one suitable... If anyone has two of it.... Best regards Roman

Hello, actually I´m searching on any information on the attached eagle. It is definitely not an Imperial German one, but from does it come and for what was it for? It looks similar to the American eagle, but I´m not sure. Does anyone have an idea? The sizes are 63 mm x 32 mm, the material should be bronze. At its back you can find two screws to fix it (on what?). The clutches are holding clutches and a bay bough. Thank you for your help! Best regards Roman

Perfect explanation from Dave. Indeed the MVM was the lesser award and the former owner got it before the crosses. But even the "Hofmarschallamt Lippe-Detmold" wasn´t sure about the return of the medal after awarding the military merit cross, so they asked in a letter the Militaerkabinett in 1917 about this and the Kabinett released this regulation, which explained officially (again). Around 50 % of the merit medal with swords on it were returned, which makes this medal even more rare. By the way, according to its stautes, it wasn´t allowed to wear the ribbon without the medal (for example on a ribbon bar) Greetings Roman

..not only from the wording...of course, it shows the war merit cross Lippe-Detmold, too. And as far as I know, it is the only multi-colored document from Lippe-Detmold. The other award documents have max. two colors (like the one for the war honour medal, which is green and black). Best regards Roman

A late reply, but not too late :-) This man was from Lippe-Detmold, as written on that document. He was from "Ehrsen", a part of the town Bad Salzuflen, which is located in Lippe-Detmold. And that´s the reason, why this certificate was prepared. By the way, these certificates are very rare, I only know a 2nd one. I still don´t know for what these certificates were prepared...maybe for heroic deeds and special honour. Best regards Roman

Aaaah...that makes it even more difficult I´m not sure, if the red-cross medal is the right type...I would prefer the steel-version. Regarding the combantant-ribbon from Lippe-Detmold (2nd position) the war honour medal and the war merit cross are possible. No idea which one would fit better, but I prefer the war merit medal. ...only a distant relative. By the way Ferdinand zur Lippe-Weissenfeld was killed in action near Lublin, Poland on 26 September 1939. Last year I had the chance to buy some photos of him on ebay. This one is showing is car, in which he was shot. The photos are showing him with some other soldiers, shortly before he died and his burial. If you wish, I can show you the complete group in a extra thread. Best regards Roman
