Hi Guys, Sense Steve brought up the topic of TR era Imperial Eks, I thought I might post this one. The outer frame is almost mirror like with only a few blemishes here and there. It is 3 part construction with a magnetic core and measures 44mm X 44.2mm and weighs 19grams.

I have two that are made of NueSilber ( a nickel alloy ) and I have one that i believe to be silver plate over copper. All are non-magnetic.

The story about navy Eks is just a story. I believe that there were 1 piece crosses made during the war although I can not back that theory up. I think that (maybe someone with more experience can help me out here) the reason these are thought to be post war or between war manufacture has to do with style and construction of the hinge, pin and catch. They also made a 1 piece Ek2. This is 1 piece made of Nuesilber and is diestruck.

The cross you have posted is a perfectly fine example of a 1 piece cross. This particular style is belived to have been produced in the 1920s-30s. They have a very charactoristic look to the hinge and pin. Nothing to worry about on this one. I do not think anyone knows for sure who the manufacture was of these crosses. There are other examples of 1 piece crosses out there from different makers. Maybe we could convince members here to post some Here is another example of the same 1920s-30s replacement crosss as yours.

I don't think so. There is still remnants of paint on the "W" If I were to remove it on purpose, I would have cleaned it much better then it is

The backside shows the typical hinge/pin set-up used on these crosses.

Here is one I just picked up at a show today. A post war replacement piece. Nothing really rare or unusual but the condition of the piece just called to me. The paint is almost mint and the silver highlights to the crown, "W" and date make for a nice looking cross.

Very nice looking set. What I find interesting is that the cores of the crosses are completely different. If you notice the details of the crown and the also the dates are different.

Steve, You have put together a very nice collection. I am still amazed at the one with the frosted rim. Beautifull Cross !

The catch has been replaced at some point in time, covering up the makers mark. Other wise the back is pretty unremarkable. The hinge has the typical dip in the center of it that is common to Friedlander crosses but I could not get a clear picture of it. This is my first cased cross. Thanks for the great feedback.

The inside is pretty standard with a dark purple tray.

I have not posted anything here for some time so I thought I might share my new Ek1. The case is a dark burgandy with a silver embossed cross. (sorry for the bad picture)
