Have you spoken to the officer? If they are not aware of the criteria required they may wish to hand it back until they have the time in.

BJOW, I know that when the Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals were issued Army service was counted towards 5 years service in a crown service. However no way does military service count towards the PLSGC medal nor any other Crown service be it military. ambulance, fire service whatever. It is for 20 years ( 22 for some of us ) exemplary service in the Police. If you've got someone wearing one with 10 years service or below parading with someone with 19 years who hasn't thats just wrong. If the federation can't be bothered or your Civy Branch. I would speak to your local PCC. You never know they maybe an ex ranking Police officer and not some career politician and they may be annoyed that those that don't meet the criteria are getting medals they aren't entitled too.

I agree with Dave. It has to be the fault of the force not the Royal mint. The way things are going you will get your long runner after 5 years as no one is going to stay much longer than that now.

Thanks Mariner, BJOW I've never heard of any exceptions and know of guys who had to leave on reaching 50years of age with 21 years service in the Police and military service who didn't get the LSGC medal when you still had to do 22 years service. Craig

No your military service does not count in any way. It was taken into account for the Golden and Diamond jubilee. Craig

Ed, i wouldn't worry if your whistle doesn't have a number on it. Mine certainly doesn't and I don't remember seeing any whistle with a number on it during my service. Craig

I thought Inspectors had the same size as Constables and Sergeants. Woman officers and CID carried small truncheons so they fitted in handbags and civilian suits.

I was in Berlin this past November and saw some officers in green but mostly blue. Have to say I'm at traditionalist and prefer the green.

I think they are up in the 240000's about now. Woman have the same warrant numbers as the men since the early 1990's though those still serving since before that date keep their old 4 figure numbers

Timo, I've done some digging and I think all Police actions are awarded through the Royal Humane Society. I think the Bronze medal you have there is a life saving qualification badge. From what I remember swimming in your pyjamas and picking up bricks from the bottom of the pool and the performing of CPR etc. I would guess an RUC man got it during his basic training to show he had completed his life saving course. I guess with it being the Royal Life Saving society and you finding it Eire that if its for Police it would have been RUC in 1984 before ending up over the border? On the main land I think rescue and life saving awards go through the Royal Humane Society? Craig
