Hello all, I just bought this Officer's 1881 dress helmet. It is missing the chin chain and plume top. It is a Bent & Bush with a Staff Eagle. From the shape of the helmet I believe it is a cut down model 1872. Any comments would be appreciated. I have a question tho - since it is a staff Officer would it have the black plume? Thanks

They are the so called 1932 style cavalry boots. They were used in the Alaskan campaigns early in WW2. Would you be willing to sell?

dmiller8 - I did not get everything. His award card for the 508th PIR (see earlier post) said he had the parachute badge, Combat Infantryman badge, 1 Arrowhead and 5 campaign stars on the EAME ribbon. The history of the 508th PIR gives him credit for the arrowhead for the jump into Southern France (probably with the 509th PIR). I don't think he ever applied for the Bronze Star. Captain Albert

Yes except for the yellow (which I can match with clothing markers), and the material is a little different (the color is exact)- but not noticeable, otherwise it will be a near perfect match. I will post after restoration. George

This is the last item I got at the local Antique show. this is an US Army model 1902 Cavalry enlisted man's Dress tunic. It is currently missing the epaulettes and their buttons. It has some rips (need to repair) but it was very cheap. I also ordered and received a set of current enlisted man's dress blue epaulettes, for repair (almost a perfect match).

This was also acquired at the local Antique Show. Silver Atlantic Fleet 1922 "Pulling" Champions Medal.

Here is the "group" - Para badge (Is from Vietnam period - was not in group). Good Conduct Medal was not boxed as can be seen by condition.

Hello all, this is not my specialty, but I picked up a group of items yesterday at a small antique show in Loleta, CA. First is an 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) award entitlement card make out to "PFC. James A. Reyonlds - the back has: Parachute badge; Combat Infantryman badge; Good Conduct Medal; (5) bronze service stars (campaign); Eame Theater Medal; Bronze service arrowhwead; Overseas bars. The card came with 2 - 508th PIR patches, 2 - 82nd AB Division patches and the usual WW2 medals (in boxes).

Yes Paul, I have been meaning to respond to you (I typed a paragraph and hit the wrong key and lost it all). Any way a few things I have noticed about "mounted" Navy groups. First of all contrary to some collectors and ex-navy types options, many sailors did not wear everything. Although when ordered to wear all the medals for formal occasions, many did not. Like Fitzpatrick's group he chose not to wear the WW2 Victory, although he received it prior to the China Service (extended) and Occupation Medal. He also had the National Defense Medal with star for a long time, and never had his group remounted. I am still waiting for NPRC to send me Fitzpatrick's record of service, I believe he had the Korean Service and the UN Korea medals. I have seen unmounted groups, and everything in between. Many sailors and even officers did not mount all their medals. I guess once you had a 5 medal bar, you just left it that way unless you got a Commendation Medal or something higher. George

Hello Paul R. - the medals or ribbons entitlements did exist while he was still active. He served from 1942 to 1962. The Antarctica Service Medal was established in 1960, ribbon authorized 1961, and the medal was awarded in 1963. Fitzpatrick was entitled to the Antarctica Service Medal, National Defense with star, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with star. I need more research for other possible entitlements such as Korea and Vietnam. I do agree that things like the Sea Service ribbon etc. should not be added. I am pretty sure he at least got the Antarctica Service Medal ribbon, a big deal was made out the creation of the "Medal" and Operation Highjump at that time. George
