    1. Royal Naval Fleet Reserve medal: H.H.A. Conn AB RFR (J2133 (Ch. B. 17996) Dan
    2. Still working on it. Haven't lost hope yet. I have a friend with one of those computer microscope dealies who's going to take a look at it next time we head over to Devils Lake. Will keep ya'll posted. Dan
    3. Well, the lil' fellow has arrived. Here are the new scans. Let me know what ya'll think. With replacement H&S. Not permanent... can be removed in half a second if necessary. His new digs... made from original case from Bulgaria with no permanent changes. Can easily and within seconds be taken back to it's original state. So no permanent changes and I personally think it looks TONS better with the H&S in place. Dan
    4. Again if anyone can add anything I'd be most grateful. Thanks!!!! Dan
    5. Well, got this in today but now compariing it with the original pics it seems he sent me a different one. The one I received has some tears but seems to be all there. Guessing he got them mixed up as he had several going out at the time. But six of one half a dozen of the other. Here's the scans of the one I received:
    6. Well, now I'm up to five 1914's. Seems to be a Wagner but please correct me if I'm wrong: Magnetic core, three piece construction, etc. Dan
    7. I'm happy I could find and post it. I'm glad it brings back some fond memories. I myself didn't start to collect till the late 70's but I studied the history and militaria in general till that time. Was born in 1962 so sadly missed out on the 60's and much of the 70's for collecting but compared with now I still hit many fantastic deals and great prices. I remember when we could buy EK/Hindenburg Cross parade mounted bars all day long for $15 to $25 each. Now look at what they go for. Made alot of great deals, later sold most of it off when prices went through the roof. Still love it all but as with so many of us my tastes changed and I wanted to get into fresh new areas and learn more. But oh if that time machine ever becomes a reality how tempting it would be to go back to the good old days with a ton of money and be able to buy up some great pieces. Dan
    8. Now if only we could hurry up and invent a time machine... lots of very tempting lots in that video! Dan
    9. Stumbled on this one and thought it might be of interest. Looks like an early auction in England. http://www.britishpa...rd.php?id=71916 Enjoy! Dan
    10. This Order of the Red Banner was one of the items stolen from a Minnesota collector around Thanksgiving. Here's the thread going into more detail: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=47059&st=0 This ORB was, it seems, the only Soviet Order. Sadly the owner did not record the serial number. He could only provide this photo: I know it's not much to go on without the SN... but notice what looks like stains on the ribbon especially in the lower areas which form specific patterns that could be matched. Anyhow, keep an eye out and if anyone tries to offer you what looks like this ORB you may want to contact law enforcement with the details. Explain that it may be connected to the robbery in question (see the above thread) and with luck we can run these low life's down, see they're punished for their crime and hopefully see the recovery of some or all of this collection. Many thanks! Dan
    11. My friend who gave it all to me got them translated... I don't know by who. Sorry. Dan
    12. When my regular, modern gloves give up the ghost and my hands are freezing... I pull these out. They have never failed me! Note, that's a bit of water on the outsides from snow as I was just out clearing the walks and raking ice off the roof. Warm and toasty in my rabbit fur lined mittens! Sadly no markings that I can find but in just as good and useable a condition as when they were originally made. Anybody happen to know anything more about them? Dan
    13. That was the one thing that stood out to me as well when I saw it. Never seen an EK with the core like that. It mostly seems to be the date, hence my wondering if perhaps it is a known variation. Definitely interesting! Dan
    14. No thoughts at all? Looks good to Nick and I... again just super mint condition... but would love some confirmations one way or the other if anyone cares to comment. Thanks! Dan
    15. Mervyn, an awesome piece! Again you come up with the most interesting goodies! You've definitely got a green thumb for militaria! Is it made of wood or metal? A great job either way but if in metal that's pretty fantastic work for a teen... even if in wood I'd say the same. He really put some time, effort and TLC into making this. A fantastic find! Congrats!!!! Dan

    17. Hi Chris. Don't know if this helps... I pulled it up on Ancestry.com and have sent over the results on one to your email. Name:J W ViljoenCampaign or Service:South Africa - Second Boer WarService Date:1899-1902Service Location:South AfricaRegiment or Unit Name:National ScoutsRegimental Number:881 It was the closest match although there are a couple of other Viljoen's who might be possibles. Actually a bunch of them on there but these will be the closest. Hoping it helps. Will pop the other two over to your email in just a sec and hoping you're able to access it where you are. Dan
    18. I'll say this... if the 1870 wasn't originally on there, is a good one, and they drilled it in order to stitch it down on this bar... then whoever did it should be shot out of a very large caliber cannon! Dan
    19. Note also that the 1870 appears to be at a very slight angle... is this perhaps a known variation/die error?
    20. Am posting this for Nick (Obergefreiter). I've seen this one and it's a beaut. Can't see anything to raise alarm bells but he welcomes opinions. Note how it's been drilled to run threads across to keep it firmly back on the bar.
