    1. Any help is deeply appreciated! Many thanks in advance!!!! Dan
    2. Hi all, This is kind of outside my area of interest. Not that I don't like Belgian awards but I'm spread way to thin as it is. But an acquaintance of mine has this piece and we've both been going nuts trying to find out what it is and roughly how much it's worth.
    3. Here's my latest... hoping original but even if made up easily worth what I paid. Photo by Vitaly Kudinov and used with his kind permission. Looks to be some Polish and Hungarian ribbons there. Will ID when I get it in. Dan
    4. Poor little dude has definitely been there and done that... but I love underdogs like this one which shout out... "If only I could talk... the stories I could tell!" Many thanks to Auke for making this one happen! Dan
    5. My newest Red Star (number 6)... photos by Auke (Ferdinand) and used with his kind permission :
    6. I'm passing this along for a very dear friend. Dan This Picture is Worth 1000 Million Words (minimum!) . . We truly take a lot for granted. Forget the football 'heroes' and movie 'stars'. Pass this on so that all may know the price of freedom Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and a Soldier One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.
    7. Hi all, Well, I don't know if this is like a one time deal or if I'm dipping my toes into Canadian awards... haven't decided yet. But this is one award I've always thought was beautiful and well designed. Plus being partial to gold it's a natural. And the case is an added bonus. Without further ado, here's my newest acquisition... coming from Canada but hoping it'll arrive within the next week or so. Also, all the photos are from the seller: Stephen Weatherby Gorg Sales (Antiques) Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada And used with his very kind permission. Named to CPL. C J Boulegon. Does anyone know how difficult/how much it would run to get the matching miniature and ribbon bar for this award? As always all comments and any additional info are deeply appreciated. Dan
    8. She's a beaut! And she looks very comfy in her new digs. Very happy I could help out. Dan
    9. Hi all, Had a WWII German police helmet pop up and may have a chance at it. But I've been out of TR for ages and need a valuation on it if at all possible so I don't go and try to pay too much. It's posted here in the members valuation section: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3752...t=0#entry349203 Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated!!!! Many thanks in advance! Dan
    10. Hi all, Hoping to get some help re: the pricing of my spare Mother's Cross case. It's the one I have my silver in in this posting: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7518...st=0#entry71730 Ziemer & Sohne, Oberstein It's a good, original case. Only major flaw is the material over the hinge area fraying as you see in the pics. I have another member who is intro'd and want to give a fair price on it but I've been far out of the loop on TR for a long time and I definitely don't want to charge too much. I kind of have a rough idea of a range but basically hoping some of you will have a more concrete idea and be willing to help me out. Please feel free to PM me as I know many of you don't feel comfortable posting prices. Any help would be deeply appreciated!!!! Dan
    11. Builder of Berlin medal... go to the bottom of the ribbon chart I linked in the last post and you'll see the ribbons for these. Dan
    12. Hi Grant, More great pieces as always! Keep up the good work my friend! On this one: Medaille f?r ausgezeichnete Leistungen im Wettbewerb (Medal for Outstanding Service in Socialist Competition) (1953) Here's a link for an excellent ribbon chart: http://www.medals.lava.pl/de/ddr.htm Go down to Ministerial Decorations For Civilians, 2nd column and down 14 ribbons and you'll see the one for this award. Dan
    13. Hi all, Kim emailed this link over to me this morning thinking the Soviet section and GMIC members in general might be intro'd. I'm posting it in the "Then and Now" section as well. But felt since it's got a definite Soviet connection it should be here too. http://fima-psuchopadt.livejournal.com/2564781.html Wish I had a translated version but regardless the photos are terrific. A merging of two times and two worlds. Great stuff! Of course as a historian I tend to see things this way anyway... I know many if not most of you understand. Dan
    14. Hi Kevin, Not a problem my friend. Again, anytime anyone wants to confuse me with Grant, yourself or any of the greats here at GMIC I will take it as a great honor. Dan
    15. Hi Kevin, I "resemble" that remark! Seriously though... it's an honor to be mixed up with Grant! Dan
    16. Update: Just heard from Grant. He said when he looked at the pics last night it was right before he headed to work and he'd missed the pics of the casting lines and the blank (non pebbled) area where the swas normally would have been. In his words "It's a duffer." So it'll have to be a place holder until (if ever) a real one comes along. Dan
    17. As you can see in the one shot there's what appears to be a casting line that runs all around the ridge. Also on the reverse where the swaz would have been on the WWII versions and normally would be pebbled as on the arms, etc., is blank and smooth on mine. But it's the right size, has a good bit of detail and is a nice heavy piece. It polished up a nice silver which doesn't show as well in the pics as in person. But does still show a bit of a brass or copper color which I'm guessing is the base metal. So I leave it up to the membership... good and if so from what period... hoping at least that it may be a late period piece... or just an out and out modern copy. Keeping my fingers crossed but again I've got so little in this that I'm okay no matter what. I also have a ribbon coming for it from Israel. Thanks!!!! Dan
    18. I just received it today, did an initial cleaning and a set of pics to initially send over to Grant for his opinion. He thinks it looks good but can't tell for sure without having it in hand. So he suggest I put it up for general viewing and opinions. So here are the new pics. Again I apologize for the quality... I may have to just disconnect my scanner from down in the bunker and bring it up to use until all the weather problems/leaking, etc., are behind us.
