Romania Grand Cross of the Romanian Crown
Hauptmann replied to Hauptmann's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Hi Alex, Beautiful set! You might check with Kevin (Kev in Deva) as he sometimes runs across such things. I've wanted a case for my set ever since I got it (long before the net/forums) but unless God drops a miracle to me on that one I'm beginning to think I'll never find one at a price I can afford. Such things have gone so high since I got mine. I'll keep my eye out too. Hopefully some ribbons will turn up soon... would love to see you be able to complete your set. Dan -
Hungary Hungarian Presentaion Set
Hauptmann replied to order_of_victory's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Have added another set to my collection. Not sure yet if this is a put together or (my theory if that's the case) it could have been put together by the Hungarian Mint as a way to finish selling off their stock of such special presentation cases after the fall of the communist state. I have one more set on hold and will post it as soon as that one is finalized. I believe it's the last of the sets I'll need to finish off this area of my Hungarian collection. Dan -

S.S. Identity Disk ?
Hauptmann replied to QSAMIKE's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
Hi Mike, First off I wanted to suggest if you go shopping for a new camera if you can manage it you might want to consider adding a nice little Epson scanner. The newer flatbeds don't run too much and they're wonderful for the kind of pics we do... especially Epsons. In the absense of our esteemed fellow member Rick I've decided to jump in and be the promoter of same. They do a great job, they're easy to use and are literally worth their weight in gold. Re: the disk... I did a quick google search and came up with the following: http://warrelics.eu/forum/erkennungsmarken-id-discs/ss-vt-pioneer-id-disk-13713/ This one shows several SS examples... one with the runes the others with the SS: http://www.thirdreichmedals.com/tags.html http://www.feldgrau.com/soldier-id.html Sorry I can't be of more help. Hey Charles... thanks for jumping in! And allow me to second... and third and fourth and even fifth you on all you said including the "Buy My Book"! I for one have an extremely cherished copy that I read through over and over every chance I get. I'm always seeing and reading new things. It gives the history of the communist years in Hungary, covers the revolution and failure of same and back through the communist years again. I can't say enough good things about it. I for one absolutely cannot wait for a volume two adding even more goodies and details on the fascinating militaria of Hungary. And trust me when I say that buying the book will end up saving you money in the long run as do having references in any area of our hobby or any hobby for that matter. An educated collector will be able to make the most of every dollar he or she puts into the hobby. http://hungarianpeoplesrepublic.com/Hungarian-People's-Republic-Book.php And of course always remember we have a wonderful resource of helpful fellow HPR collectors right here. Certainly... happy to. His name is Zsolt. He's one of our members as well. I'll PM you with his info. I've dealt with Zsolt on many occassions over the years and it's always been a pleasure dealing with him. His merchandise has always been just what I've been looking for. He ships things right out, packed safely and professionally. I highly recommend him. Dan

Am thinking of selling one of my two WW1 Stahlhelms. Don't want to but may need to. But I've seen prices on these up and down the charts so any help nailing it down a bit would be deeply appreciated. And of course if anyone is intro'd please get with me via PM. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44386 Thanks! Dan

I'm always skittish about these nowadays with all the fakes running around out there. I've needed/wanted one of these for years and finally managed to get one for a very good price. It's got the separately soldered ring and seems to look okay to these all but worn out eyes of mine... but hoping for a confirmation one way or the other. Any help would be deeply appreciated!

A quick question... how hard are these "Rothe" copies to find and about what could one expect to pay for one? I'd absolutely LOVE one of these FJO Knight's Crosses but fear originals would be well out of my price range... especially at the moment. I think these are one of the most beautiful Orders out there. Many thanks in advance for any info. Dan

WOW Pete! I don't know about the rock and roll but sex wise methinks the collection had a ton of it... they were breeding like rabbits! Some awesome pieces there! I only wish I'd taken good pics like these of my early pieces. Alot of the ones I took were polaroids and they just don't show very much detail. But luckily a few 35mm's as well. Definitely trips down memory lane. Re: the Luft eagle... no idea what it was off of but I sure do love it... wingtips or not. Just a great looking piece! Gotta rush off to work in a bit but will look at the pics a bit more when I get back. Just alot to take in. Again many thanks for sharing! Dan -

Great pics! I especially LOVE that big Luft eagle. Do you still have that one? What's the story behind it? Thanks for sharing these! Dan -
A bit of additional info on this one. It's made by Friedländer and dates to WW1. I'd asked Andreas (Andreas M. Schulze Ising) about it. He got me to check for markings and sure enough there's an FR between the top and right hand arms of the cross on the main circular part of the award. Again a shame about the enamel damage but A) had it not been for that I'd have not been able to afford it, B) I'm love underdogs and C) ones like this have definitely seen alot more history than one that sat in a case in a drawer all these years. Many thanks to Andreas for his help on this one! Dan
