    1. I have to agree with my fellow collectors above... the wings look great the way they are and show character and life. When a medal or badge is in mint condition it tends to lack a feel of history (of course there are many examples where new looking/mint condition is very valuable and beautiful).
    2. I would like to say that I do not accuse any specific person of getting free info to increase their sales because I also understand that someone new might have to figure out the lay of the land.... BUT I do believe that most people would understand that a simple "thank you" goes a long way.
    3. I've noticed that there are a few members that seem to ask for info on a medal/award without real appreciation when receiving answers where I'm suspecting that they are looking for more info to increase the sale value
    4. In the below thread I'm discussing the orders and awards of Mr. Luns. The interesting thing is that it seems he really favored his Order of Tri Shakti Patta as he was seen wearing it often. I was wondering if anyone could give a date to when he received it which I assume must have been somewhere in the 1950's here is a photo of him wearing it
    5. I agree, and of course I wasn't really saying that Mr. Luns is "bad" and Clause was right... I was more showing how two people can display extreme contrast. And I thought that that particular image showed it really well. Again, it might appear that I have something against Mr. Luns but that is not the case. I find him interesting and his collection is obviously vast which is why I started this thread.
    6. Here Mr. Luns is talking to Princess Irene at a government dinner in honor of Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven's wedding in 1967. He is clearly wearing 3 Jubilee medals The gentleman on the right is wearing a commanders croos of the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
    7. I have to agree with CCJ. I've never understood why anyone would spend any money (above 30 bucks) on a reproduction/museum copy or whatever euphemisms are out there. But now I understand that if you want to create a specific medal bar and a medal is extremely rare you would. Although I do really believe that if something is worth the price to you it is worth it....
    8. So I assume that the resale value of a 1st class to be substantially higher than a 3rd class to through the hassle of applying enamel on this medal.
    9. O just as some additional info... Mr. Luns gathered over 50 orders and awards having more than Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld (the consort of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands). Here he is with Prince Claus of the Netherlands, Jonkheer van Amsberg.... the contrast couldn't be greater. Prince Claus: husband of Queen Beatrix, and the Prince Consort of the Netherlands from Beatrix's ascension in 1980 until his death from Parkinson's disease and heart and respiratory ailments in 2002.
    10. THANK you great dane.... I've updated. This is really what I love about this forum.
    11. Ok, I made it sound a little catchy to get your attention. While responding to another thread I noticed the amount of orders Mr Joseph Luns (Joseph Marie Antoine Hubert Luns) had at a specific time and with his position I thought it at least a little odd to the amount of extremely high awards. I have been researching his orders/awards and found that he was referred to as the greatest collector of awards by numerous historians/authors and fellow politicians. Some background info on the man: He was in politics for over 30 years and mainly as a Minister of Foreign Affairs and as the 5th Secretary General of NATO. His father was an artist (painter, sculptor and writer. He also designed book covers, posters and MEDALS). He married the Baroness Lia van Heemstra. His political views were very conservative leaning towards autocracy and he had a very clear distain for anything that hinted towards socialism or communism. Above is pretty generally accepted information (of course if you love the man you might disagree with the autocracy remark but every evidence does point to that) but from here on out it will be my personal take on his clear obsession with getting awarded orders unless stated otherwise. Mr. Luns married a Baroness which probably, given the time period, fed into his desire to "fit in" with the circle of friends and when he became politically successful he also became friends with Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld (the consort of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands) which put him even more in the circle of people and parties where the wearing of orders/medals equates to status. In both his positions as Minister and Secretary General of NATO Mr. Luns had power which he could use to his personal gain in obtaining medal/orders, which he especially did as Secretary General of NATO and he was completely fine receiving gifts from leaders that were less than honorable. He was known for directly asking to be given an order or honorary title when negotiating treaties. I todays world this would be less likely as the scrutiny on political kickbacks in a position like that is very high. But, I am less interested in how Mr. Luns was able to get his awards/orders as I am curious as to which ones he received over time. Below I'll post a list of Orders that I know for a fact he received on a specific date, then I'll post a list of awards/orders that I know he received I just do not have a date to it and then I'll post a list of awards/orders that I think he might have received but I'm not sure. I did not yet figure out the "medals" he received as this list already took a lot of digging but he of course received multiple Dutch jubilee/wedding/coronation medals and probably some from other countries as well. I know that in 1986 he gave his orders/medals on loan to the Kanselarijmuseum in museum t Loo in Apeldoorn. I've contacted multiple times but have not ever received any response on what they have and so if anyone living in The Netherlands has been there and has more info or photos please share. And to anyone else if you also have info, additions or general remarks or interesting photos about this shout it out. I'll also post some photos of hime at different times. 12. for more info on the crest and the initials within it: http://www.hubert-herald.nl/Peru.htm
    13. OK, so the badge is Peruvian. Probably a crest of the city of Lima. I found the zippo lighter from the above image and it shows the crest of Peru with a peruvian lady on the opposite side.
    14. Unless someone recognizes the badge offhand it would be good to have a sharp image of the crest or describe it. It looks like on the bottom there is a K and J with a rose in between (is it a rose?) Top is there an A in the center or an Eye of Providence? what is on the top left and right and in the center of the crest?
    15. I'm also curious as to why you believe it it be from the Kingdom of Yugoslavia? Even Though I would need a clearer image to see better the fact that the badge has the Pillars of Hercules points more towards Spain or South/Central America
    16. Please try to take a photo that is in focus on a single color background.
    17. Yes... and it looks pretty good. seems the lighting on the photos is pretty bad (to much) so the text and the back are way to bright, but it looks like a nice piece.
    18. Badge for excellent military service (army) Kiváló Karhatalmi Szolgálatért = For Excellent Army Service (google translate as my hungarian is pretty crappy)
    19. I was wondering if the postcard had any text on it that might clarify a little more and as there is an image of the "police" officer in full it would be nice to see the whole photo instead of pieces. From the card I would think about props as the background seems very theatrical. I think Deelibob made some good observations and that in combination with the background tells a story. So if there is a full photo of this scene it would be good to see and in general it is good to have as much info as possible when asking people for help identifying something.
    20. As Brian stated... the first one appears to be a usaaf splinter goggles or WWII USAF AAF AIR FORCE flak goggles see here: https://stewartsmilitaryantiques.com/us-wwii-usaaf-flak-splinter-goggles.44097.archive.htm The second one appear to be British splinter goggles. see here: https://www.ww2civildefence.co.uk/goggles.html WWII USAF bomber crew
