    1. Hi Peter, This is a very nice set, and one of the more desirable makers. A great start to the collection.
    2. Jan, Eric and Rich.. @ Rich... I know that feeling all too well.
    3. I?m away for a few days and return to find this absolutely superb set! Very nice, Dave. Seeing that you have his name, rank and unit details, you should see if the ?Bundesarchiv? have his service record. It can take some time, and a few pennies, but would be well worth the effort. I can e-mail you the appropriate addresses should you wish to go down that road. In the meantime...a little background on 4./KG 27 ""Boelcke" http://www.ww2.dk/air/kampf/kg27.htm
    4. With the rest of the "Assmann" PB flock. From left to right: All aluminium 1st pattern eagle/2nd pattern wreath - Nickel plated tombak 1st pattern eagle/2nd pattern wreath - Nickel silver 1st pattern eagle/3rd pattern wreath - (The one above) Aluminium 2nd pattern eagle/nickel silver 3rd pattern wreath - Tombak 2nd pattern eagle/nickel plated 3rd pattern wreath. Still hunting for that elusive "egg shaped" 1st pattern wreath.
    5. Just in is one of the hardest variations of pilot?s badge by ?F.W Assmann? to locate. With solid nickel silver 3rd pattern wreath and 2nd pattern aluminium eagle, most will be found with extensive wear to the highlights. This example, however, is in excellent condition with the features of the eagle intact. The obverse shows that the rivets have been hammered in an attempt to tighten the eagle, a characteristic found on the majority of badges having aluminium parts. By no means mint?but all in all, a ?been there? piece with history.
    6. Many thanks, David As an added bonus... this unissued patch/packet was found in the inside pocket.
    7. I thought I?d drag this out of the wardrobe.. Made from a splinter pattern zeltbahn, these camouflage field uniforms were commissioned by troops stationed in Italy.
    8. A very nice example of a comparatively rare badge, Eric Most of these ?2nd pat? of the ?1st pat? badges, I?ve seen, have been in aluminium. I suspect that there was a short production run using this eagle and very few were made. If I may, here?s the sister to you badge, also in buntmetal.
    9. Reverse. It should be noted that some zinc examples will be found with the same hinge as used on the buntmetal version.
    10. Going on the pictures supplied I would have say that it?s a late example, in zinc by ?The unknown maker? (possibly Friedrich Linden ? L?denscheid.) I can?t comment on the engraving other than to say that the badge was made well after the ?1939? date that appears on the badge. For comparison?a buntmetal version by the same maker.
    11. Snoopy, great items!! @Nesredep... I think it's all down to collecting interests. I have a friend who would love to get his hands on such items as he collects nothing but equipment. Shipping is another matter...the costs for large/heavy items is somewhat prohibitive I would think.
