Hi, unfortunately there is no book on Czechoslovak ODM available. It is a pity, because they are nice and well made. To improve their immage among collectors I will show some of them. Let´s start with one of oldest awards called Czechoslovak Revolutionary Medal (Československá revoluční medaile), which was established by Presidential Decree dated 1st December 1918. Medal is made from bronze, the author of design was famous French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle. First pieces were produced in France, following restrikes in Czechoslovakia by different producers. The width is 41-44 mm, the hight 47 mm. The width of ribbon is 38-41 mm. Several variants exist, dark bronze, light bronze, gilt, holow construction, with(without) designer´s initials etc. Several metal bars can be placed on the ribbon, numbers of regiments, places of service and battles, linden leafs or twigs. Veterans often did not follow rules and gave incorrect symbols on their medals. This medal is quite common, fakes dont exist . Jan

Hello guys, I have just bought so called Shedwan medal. Shedwan is a small rocky island in Red Sea. Egyptian army has there some radar and a small unit to guard it. On January 22nd, 1970 Israeli forces atacked the island and battle took 36 hours. Egypt lost 70 men and Israel 50. Egypt has issued a medal to commemorate the event. It must have been soon atfter that because the name of state, flag and state symbols were in use till 1971. I dont read Arabic and in such cases I use a service of my tobacconist , who is a Palestinian. He says that inscription on the avers means Shedwan , the upper inscription on the revers is United Arab Republic and lower inscription means something like " in memory of" or "commemorating Shedwan". I would appreciate if somebody can give more informations, for example who and when established the medal, what is the full official name etc. The seller insits, that only 100 pieces was produced, what would make this medal extremply rare. Bulgaria Bulgaria - Commemorative Medal 1915-1918 War
bilylev replied to IrishGunner's topic in Central & Eastern European States
It was quite normal that foreigners who received medals on the triangular ribbon changed it to be able to wear the medal together with other medals they had. Sometimes they could not get the matching ribbon so they could use another one, not quite appropriate. -

I did not buy it, because the author is my brother . But people here are buying like hell. The book contains pictures of all existing badges, every with detailed English description. Also pictures of many award documents, which were never published before. And a list of producers with their marks, etc. etc. Jan -
