Question about British Helmets
fjcp replied to Hun Helmet's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
I thought I'd add my little helmet to the mix. It's not in great shape I fear, but it has "character" lots of scribbles and little drawings on it that could only have been done by its original owner!( well I hope that's the case anyway) The liner is marked "Jager Rand , U (with arrow) and 1942.This seems reasonable since we got it while living in South Africa back in the '80s. I believe the AFS stands for "Air Formation Signals" but I'm not sure. The colours painted on the back of the helmet are I believe further evidence for my guess, but I must confess that what I know on this subject is dangerously little. Anything anybody could add would be most appreciated! -
Mongolia It's a... ehm It's a.... well, what is it?

Hi there, and welcome to the forum! I will obviously defer to you in this matter, considering your location! Thanks for the clarification. JC -
Not the greatest quality, but since Mongolian items are my thing I had to have it! I believe there were only two mongolians ever to go into space, so a fun little badge. JC

Well the only thing I can add to this is what the inscription says> It reads "Scholastic honour". It could be merit or distinction also but honour is what the dictionary came up with as the closest match!!! -
Mongolia Hero and labour Hero of the Mongolian People's republic
fjcp replied to Vatjan's topic in People's Republic Mongolia
I'm still in shock!!!! I was just thinking that this piece would look even better with proper enamel repair. Just imagine how spectacular it would look! I know you can't divulge the previous owner, but I'm curious all the same. Could you at least tell us if it's not one of "Mr. Happy" Choibalsan's orders? that would leave just 4 possible candidates for us to consider. Just imagine what the recipient must have done!! Choibalsan probably did nothing more than look mean to get his, But the other 4 must have been interesting chaps. S.Gongors story is in the book but what about the other three???? I'm speechless!!! Ed I am simply amazed!!!!!!! Your collection is without equal... Many words come to mind, some less nice than others but I'm very happy for you! Simply amazing.....never thought anybody would ever get one of these....... Too bad there isn't a drooling smily 'cause that would best capture this moment!!! Congrats... JC -

B27 19th party conference of the MPRP... Equally well made as B26! For some unknown reason these two badges were given special attention, because none of the other badges of this type/series are as well made. These (b26 &27) are probably as well made as the B04 deputat badges and are probably also made from silver. My B27 weighs 14.5g and has a cyrillic mint mark on the reverse.

B26 18th party conference of the MPRP... Extraordinary quality for a badge. Two variations seen, enameled (pictured ) and a painted one.

Some L02s.These badges are just great, real little gem. The purpose of this post though is the "L25". So here goes.

Thanks for the info Bob, the more info the better!! Just a quick question about two of the badges you mentioned. Where are the serial numbers on badges #534 and #791 located? are they at the 7 or at the 10 o'clock position? Thanks. JC

Well if "Guy" wants to rid of the rest of his stuff he should give the "saleroom" a look so that the rest of us addicts can get our fix!!! Anyway, I just had a look at mine and I have one with serial #1031 and strangely enough the two "1"s are different. The first "1" looks just like the one you posted and the 2nd "1" looks like the normal straight line... Weird.. I've tried to take pictures before but the reverse is rather heavily tarnished so there is very little detail to be seen in the pictures.I'll try again in a bit and if it works I'll post them. Cheers JC PS. welcome to the GMIC.

I just got in # 3527 and it is just like the one you have. It has the much darker enamel and it also weighs 19g. I'm also 100% sure it is solid silver ok 99%... Its weight is an indicator, but as Ed suggested, the engraved numbers show a pure silver interior which differs greatly from the obviously golden colour found on most of these badges. Woohoo I just love all these variations, however small the differences. It's just a convenient excuse for me to collect more and more!!!!
