    1. Since we just got that awesome list posted, thanks Glen I thought I would post this bar. It has been on the forum before, and Stogie sold it to me last year. The draw for me was the IC2 Non combat version of the IC 1870. Being very interested in the Chaplains in the German military, I really found this bar interesting. I know of one definate award of a IC2 NC cross to a chaplain in the Fraco-Prussian War, and I hope Glen's list will shed more light on this for me. The cross has a few features that I would like to ask about. Rick (x2--both of them) thought this was an issue rather than a later piece. Is that noted by the double strike on the 1870? How are you able to tell an issue piece, rather than one made after the war. 4,000 IC2 NC were awarded during the war (according to Gordon and The Iron Time) -- but how many of those were actually given out. Was this like the 1813 IC, where less than were awarded were actually given? Sorry if I have a few of my facts wrong. I am making the pleasent switch from III Reich militaria to Imperial German (for which my wife blames all of you...esspecially you Boonzaier ), so I'm trying to really learn as I go along--thanks all
    2. Thanks a ton guys! It means a lot that people remeber (or even know what Orthodoxy is)
    3. Awesome! thank you! Any idea on the two helmets? I know one is a type 90, but what is the one on the left in the photo. It does not have the brim of a T90, and it is sort of rounded rather than oval on the top. I am really not sure what it is
    4. Bayonet and US 80mm (?) mortar caseing (dewat--no internal fireing)
    5. This is an interesting grouping I picked up when I was about 10 from a neighbor. The father had been stationed at in the Phillipines as an Air Force Officer, and the son had done a lot of relic hunting/buying. At the time I met him, he was more into his ?72 Charger than Japanese relics, so he gave me these items. Any idea what marking is on the bayonet? I have always wondered. From what he told me, he bought the larger helmet, and the more beat up one he found in the jungle (this would have been about ? 1972?) along with a knee mortar. Pretty neat, as I don?t see relic items from the Pacific as much as the European Theater (could be that I just don?t look) I never got the knee mortar, but I have a Arasaka Rifle barrel around someplace ? found at the same place. Is there any interest in relic items from the Pacific Theater? I know there is a lot of interest in German/Russian items from 1941-45, but I don?t see much on Japanese/American items for the Island Campaigns.
    6. I too like to think of what these men lived through. From the birth of the airplane and the car, to mass world wide transit, space flight, and the internet. It must have been an amazing ride. Rest in peace
    7. Awesome! Thank you for posting that. The dates of promotion to Oberpfarrer are neat. You dont see that rank very often in the III Reich, thank you again for posting this!
    8. WOW!!!! A sword for that time period is just....WOW!!! Thanks Rick for such a great posting!! To know that things are still out there, and we can actually give them some life like this is so great! Thanks for shareing
    9. Ed that cross is absolutely outstanding!! Thank you so much for showing it. The Orthodox Crosses from Russia can be such works of art! Love seeing them
    10. I've never seen a Russian cross in this type of configuration. Usually, crosses from Orthodox Russia are of the pattern with the tilting scales on the base This looks more like a malteese cross--I've never seen an Russian Orthodox cross in this style. Still really neat looking.
    11. Here is the one photo (not in a book) that I have of an imperial Chaplain. This came from AOK4 on the WAF forum years ago. Its not his tunic, but is looks really nice! I think the camera is playing tricks with the piping = it looks too dark to me, but the whole diorama is dark. It must be nice to make diaramas with fully kitted manequins rather than models! AOK and Tony from Kaiser's Bunker have all the fun! Robert do you have the book, the German Army in the First World War? They have some OUTSTANDNING color plates of real visors and frock coats from the first world war.
    12. Hi Robert! Welcome to the forum! I got this from someone a while back, it's a pretty good representation of what the hats are supposed to look like. I was asking the same question and he posted this for me. I dont remember where he got it, or who it even was Sorry, my mind is going But check out the upper and lower piping. All violet. I think I have a photo of a legit WWI setup from a guy in Germany, let me see if I can find it.
    13. Hi Robert! I am really not sure. I think we have seen this chaplain before in a profile shot. He looks really familiar for some reason. I'm going to dig through my files and look--its strange but I could swear I have seen him before.
    14. Sorry all for the really dumb question, but where do you look in a Navy soldbruch to find out what boat a sailor was assigned to? Was there a special area? Thanks in advance! (does anyone know of any ref books on Soldbruchs out there?)
    15. And now I can place the name, face, and history behind this photo I got a long time ago. It was of an unknown priest with IC2. I knew it was an 1870 non-combatant award, but there was no name for the priest. Now with the information above, and the history of where the photo was taken, I present a photo of Pastor Emil Frommel. The photo was taken in Strasbourg, where Frommel took part in the siege. He was also the first pastor to give a sermon in Strasbourg's cathedrial after the battle.
    16. Awesome! Thank you so much! Now that I have this info I can finally put a name to a face: Here is a photo off of Wiki of Pfarrer Frommel
    17. Thank you so much!! I totally appreciate that info, the IC2 part is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you agian!
    18. I saw this photo and immedately wanted it. I placed a "safe bid" or so I thought- Last few minutes of the auction, the price jumped 175 Euro! 201 Euro for this photo! Granted it is rare as heck, but 201 Euro is still a steep price! Are luftwaffe photos in general just more expensive? There cant be that many more chaplain collectors out there. Photo is off of Ebay with owners mark.
    19. Hi Chris! Sorry I missed your question before Yes that is from Bill's collection. He was so happy when he got that tunic, he sent me quite a few photos of it. It was kind of like talking to a little kid on Christmas morning! I think you made his day with that tunic!
    20. Does anyone have a list of decorations won by this individual. He looks to have served with Baden and Wurttemberg regiments under General August von Werder. I know he participated in the siege of Stasbourg. Anyone have any other information on him? Thanks a ton in advance!
