Copy of 1916 Proclamation sells for ?360K Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:14 A copy of the 1916 Proclamation signed by one of those present in the G.P.O. during Easter Week has been sold at auction in Dublin for ?360,000. The Proclamation, which is in good original condition and is signed by Irish rebel leader and bodyguard to Tom Clarke, Sean McGarry, was purchased by a private Irish collector over the telephone. It is expected to remain in the country. Buyers have spent around ?2m in total on over 650 items that date mainly from the early part of the last century. Other top selling lots include a rare handwritten and signed letter from Michael Collins to his Republican colleague Austin Stack, proposing a Belfast prison break, which sold for ?70,000, double its pre-sale estimate. Sean MacDiarmada's 1916 combatant medal, posthumously awarded made ?110,000 and a painting of Queen Maeve by Maud Gonne that she painted for W.B. Yeats, sold for ?30,000. Bidders and onlookers packed into Adam's auction house in St Stephen's Green for the extensive sale of Irish historical and political artifacts. Story from RT? Help us, Kevin. Frist class ("gilt") vs. third class ('bronze") is always tricky, for any of these orders?
Hallo Ed. <img src="http://gmic.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" /> First Class is always Gilt, Silver Second, and Bronze third, however as can be seen with the 1st to 5th class Agricultural awards there are the odd anomaly, but the combinations are very basic. I have not seen many of the awards at the collectors fairs here, some are no doubt still held by the family's, others, are being sourced by the professional dealers out of Bucharest out to make a killing by selling to the west. Romanian Order of Labor RPR and RSR All Classes
Kev in Deva replied to Riley1965's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Hallo Rick, nice 3rd Class, basically they all had the same design, but the 2nd Class had silver Rays with a lemon yellow center, while first class had Golden Rays, silver corn ears, and a center with a colour in between Lemon and Orange. I am sorry to say I dont have a picture handy at the mo, will try to dig one out as soon as possible. Kevin in Deva. -
Heer What is this?
Kev in Deva replied to volkssturm's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
The skull on this piece is more akin to the tradition cap badge worn by the Regimental Staff of the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 11th squadrons of the 5th Cavalry Regiment and by all units of the 4th Cavalry Division except the 41st Cavalry Regiment (1944-45). So in my opinion its a fantasy, "any skull will do to represent the SS" Piece. Your link leads to a website that is obviously selling fake / repro items and could be classed as a spam link under: Opinion of Moderator required please. Kevin in Deva. -
New stuff help needed
Kev in Deva replied to perce's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
Hallo Perce As Third Reich Items have been heavily faked this is why we need to see good close up pictures. Top item is one of a pair of shoulder straps The Eagle with outstretched wings over a swastika is from a cap. The two black / Green lozenge shaped items are from the collars of a uniform denoting unit. The shield object on the bottom left is the KRIM Campaign Shield, given for service in the Crimea Campaign, these have been faked as well. Military medals are my main area of interest but I am sure some of our members will be able to i.d. all with better pictures. Kevin in Deva. -

Kev in Deva replied to perce's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
Hallo Perce, to get a decent honest opinion from the members here, you will have to post better pictures, single items, front and back, cropped close. Kevin in Deva. -
