    1. Further info:- I was given the following as a translation of the languages on the pin:- Top of Medal = Belgrade (in Cyrillic) Left Side = Union of War Volunteers (in Latin) Right Side = Kingdom of Yugoslavia (in Cyrillic) Kevin in Deva
    2. I believe the one with the yellow and blue ribbon to be connected to Pope Leo 13th either for his election to the job, or it commemorates a visit and audience with the Pope in Rome. A look through the Religious medal section on evil bay Italy might shed some light on it. Kevin in Deva.
    3. Looking at the Linden Leaves depicted to the rear of this object its a Communist Czechoslovakian item. Sorry but I am not familiar with their language Kevin in Deva.

    7. Hallo Gents, picked this one up at the weekend in the Collectors Fair, Targu Mures, Northern Romania. I liked the look of the old soldier on the front. Can anybody identify its purpose, and what it says on the front? Many thanks, Kevin in Deva.
    8. Hallo DanEMS Welcome to the Forum, please do not hesitate to ask any questions, our members are quite friendly nice collection, great looking Romanian Service Medal, III Class in bronze, with original ribbon (Post 3, top row, second from the end). My first ever Romanian Military Medal was the Silver version of this, sold in a German Flea-market as a "Swedish Medal" because it had blue and yellow colours in the ribbon Kevin in Deva.

    12. Hi 922F Not so old ladies work there now, I used my Irish charm and blarney on them, pictures are allowed once you agree to pay the fee for each picture at the Admission desk, they give you a badge to wear, check your camera picture counter going in, and make a calculation on coming out. On the 18th March 2008, I was the only visitor who was there for the whole day, I went in at 09:00 in the morning and left at 17:00 that evening. I will post more pictures later and some written descriptions of items. Kevin in Deva
    13. With regards the Japanese Inter-Allied Victory Medal, page 61 of the book by Mr. Alexander J. Laslo The Inter-Allied Victory Medal of WW1. 2nd Revised Edition:- Since the above book was published there are at least two modern copies being touted on the market, one in a very dark chocolate brown material, the other in shinny brass material, both have the British Inter-Allied medal ribbon attached and are usually offered without the box. The original Japanese Victory Medals complete with wooden box show up on the online auction pages more often than the original Greek, Portuguese, versions, with the most rare being the Brazilian, Siamese, Philippines, followed by the Greek, Romanian and Czechoslovakian Medals. The "Polish" Inter-Allied version is pure fantasy and offered mainly on American Ebay. Kevin in Deva.
    14. I think the stamp collecting fraternity refer to these items as "First Day Covers" Kevin in Deva.

    20. Hallo Ricky, thanks for the scan, interesting items, and additional info. I attach pictures of the back, perhaps Carol I could translate. Cropped close ups to follow. Kevin in Deva.
    21. After highlighting the picture, it seems to fit reasonably well. But a close up of the box empty would be of interest. Kevin in Deva

Hallo Ed and Ricky, many thanks for your response, I will post a picture of the rear of the card tomorrow as its written in red pencil and wont photograph under house lights, so I will try natural light. Its addressed to a location, in the town of Arad, Western Romania Interestingly there is also a lead penciled notation to: "Geoagiu de jos Baile, Villa Dublesiu, Judet: Hunedoara," (which is a spa bath not far from Deva where I live,) and there are 3 stamps, one partially removed and one of which depicts the Romanian King Carol II. The postmark date is unreadable to my eyes. This card was being tossed around the room at the Hobby Club, when I arrived this evening, some guy was looking to sell a stack of postcards for drink money, it caught my eye and I decided to take it. Ricky, can you post an example of the crosses you mentioned?? Kevin in Deva.
