    1. Hallo Ian, Needless to say your father was in a Polish Unit. Really would need to see better pictures or scans of the medals. Number 1 is a Jerusalem Cross. Number 2. possibly a Polish Military Service Medal. Number 3, I believe is a Polish Regiment Cross. Number 4 & 5 for the moment unknown. By the way looking at the British mini medals, one of the larger British Stars is missing from the set. Kevin in Deva.

    5. Hallo Greg, with regards the above in bold, and I am living here since 2003, I have never come across any mention of Romanian women serving in the Military as Romanian Communist military personnel, nor have I seen any photographs to support such a theory. There were odd cases in Romanian history of women serving in the Romanian Imperial Army but they were the exception, more than the rule. There was a women section of the Patriotic Guard, but they would not have been entitled to such a medal bar as pictured above. Kevin in Deva.
    6. Hallo HugoB268, looking through my reference files there is mention of the INV band playing the recruits off from Ballina Train Station, in County Mayo and reference to an entire company of the INV joining up en-mass,to fight the Germans, frustratingly there is no mention of uniform details. I personally have never heard of any medals being issued, as the organisation was not in service long enough for that, and I doubt the wearing of South African Medal ribbons from the Boer side would have been tolerated, maybe Chris B. would have an idea about that. Kevin in Deva.
    7. Hallo Gents. thought I would share these:- Blue Flag Diameter: 31mm x 28mm SIE BEREIT FÜR FREIDEN UND VOLKERFREUNDSCHAFT National Flag Diameter: 31mm x 28mm IMMER BEREIT FÜR FREIDEN UND VOLKERFREUNDSCHAFT Slight difference in design and wording. Kevin in Deva.
    8. My recent pick-up on Saturday at the Collectors Fair in Brasov, on Saturday 12th September 2009. Kevin in Deva.
    9. Hallo MM. The ribbon of the KSA was Green, White and Orange and I doubt that many men would award medals to themselves. Kevin in Deva.
    10. But you have posted it in the DDR section of the Forum, * Soviet & Communist Era: Medals & Militaria * > German Democratic Republic: Deutsche Demokratische Republik: Militaria * > Unknown brooche there is a separate place for questions at:- http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showforum=222 Kevin in Deva.
    11. Hallo hmfgreifswald, why would you think something with a crown an "X" possibly representing "10" a maker name which sounds English, be connected to DDR / East Germany? Kevin in Deva.
    12. 13. Was there not a ribbon for a Freikorps Medal in this colour:- Ehrhardt, Marinebrigade, Verdienstabzeichen der II Marine-brigade Wilhelmshaven, 1920, Schnalle. Kevin in Deva.
    14. Many thanks for the warning! Any chance to copy the pictures for the Fake data base? Kevin in Deva.

    16. Hallo Gents, just thought I would add pictures of my: "Excellent Combat and Political Training" Badge that I picked up in Brasov, Romania on the 12th September, 2009. Size: 43mm X 32,5 mm Glazed enamel, Screw back, with stamped disk. Kevin in Deva.
    17. Peter not debunking your post totally out of hand, but there is a difference in U.N. Missions conducted, many are involving at least a battalion size group in regards to Peace-keeping and Peace-enforcing and the other is the U.N. Observer Missions, where its usually a couple of Officers or some very senior N.C.O's deployed as observers, sometimes not even armed. I will have a look at the UN Mission list and do a little checking but I do not think Ireland has participated in every U.N. Mission there ever was, particularly with regards some of the missions being reserved specifically for African Nation military units. Kevin in Deva.
    18. Hallo TacHel, Is it usual for Canadian Military Service bars to show "Foreign" awards first? I believe most countries, (for example Ireland U.K.) mount U.N. medals after their own Service Decorations, so is this a peculiarity that's purely Canadian? Kevin in Deva.
    19. Hallo H, sorry for the delay, been having problems trying to get access to the site for the last 7 hours, my mistake I took mention of the "Irish National Volunteers" to be more towards the immediate post-War of Independence Period. I have come across mention of the formation you identify as "Irish National Volunteers" many units were raised country wide with the approval of the British Authorities, and many of them volunteered en-masse for the British Army, and duly went off to fight in France & Flanders. They even had their own bands play them off to the station. I will have a quick check through my newspaper reference files but I cant remember any uniform details. One other thought a University O T C Unit??Aside from that it might be worth posting the picture over at the Great War Forum, they have a shared extensive knowledge of uniforms and equipment circa WW1. Kevin in Deva
    20. Hallo Hugo, to my eyes the cap badge bears no relationship to the FF - Sunburst cap badge of the Irish Army. To my eyes ot appears to look like a spinx (?) in a wreath. Also the medal ribbons dont ring any bells either. Kevin in Deva.
