Ralph A Posted June 4, 2005 Author Posted June 4, 2005 Bar's reverse. Coursed in red. Thanks once again, gentlemen, for looking.
Mike Huxley Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Nice one Ralph. Those close up shots are awesome, what camera are you using? This is one award that I'm still looking for, mounted on a bar. So if you get tired of looking after it !!!!
Ralph A Posted June 5, 2005 Author Posted June 5, 2005 Mike,An old Sony Mavica. 3 megapixel. So it can't be the camera...I think the secret is a steady hand, good indirect lighting, and a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.I'll keep you in mind for the bar.
CRBeery Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Here is one from the same maker in the case of issue. It had the receipt allowing the owner to pick it up folded up in the box. Most of you know the story.
Bob Hunter Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 (edited) Here is an example with the swords attached directly to the cross. I don't know if this is an earlier or later variation... Edited June 29, 2005 by Bob Hunter

I don't know if this is an earlier or later variation... The cross shown by Bob Hunter in 2005 is indeed an earlier type: a cross made by Stuttgart court jeweler Eduard Foehr. From 1914 to 1916, Foehr supplied only 331 knight's crosses 2nd class, of which some got older, Steinam made swords that had been removed from returned 1870/71 crosses. For comparison the Stuttgart mint, only supplier of late war awards, produced a total of 4938 knight's crosses 2nd class with swords (see Klein and Raff, p. 466, 467 and 483).
