    From the shoulder straps, Infantry or Reserve Infantry Regiment 53:

    [attachmentid=61316]

    of the three Leutnants at left, the reverse caption writer has omitted himself, so don't know which the first two refer to

    "Leutn Engelhard, geborener Wismarer, jetzt Oberleutnant in Elberfeld

    Leutn Schaefer

    Hauptm Steinkr?ger

    Hauptm Lieck

    Major Reinhard

    Leutnant Hildebrand"

    No date, no place. Steinkr?ger and Lieck (of the florid chin bristles) were Oberleutnants dR together in Inf Rgt 53 before the war. "Schaefer" may be the "Sch?fer" who was a pre-war Lt dR with them.

    Reinhard was probably the 1914 Major of Fusileer Regiment 39 pre-war, last shown in the Honor Rank List as Commander of Inf Rgt 57, and char. Oberstleutnant aD.

    The two seated Leutnants and Hauptmann Steinkr?ger have "53" on their shoulder boards visible. The Captain's boards are of the subdued M1915 type.

    So, a late 1915 photo? Taken before but captioned after Engelhard's promotion. Beers in one hand and wine in the other,

    Officers Just Wanna Have Fun.

    Because it was a tough hard war for these Schaumburg-Lippers, but SOMEBODY had to do the jobs other officers wouldn't do! :rolleyes:

    Rick,

    The line regiment of the 53.IR wore a crown on their shoulder boards. These guys must be from the reserve regiment if they have the number "53".

    Rick,

    I agree that that is most probably the then Major Viktor Reinhard originally from F.R. 39.

    Hauptmann d.R. Dr. jur. Wilhelm Steinkr?ger, an attorney, practicing in M?hlheim am Rhein, was killed in action at Verdun on 14 May 1916

    Hauptmann d. R. Lieck, a Direktor in C?ln survived the war as did Engelhard & Schaeffer.

    A Leutnant Johann Hildebrandt of RI.R. 53 was also killed at Verdun on the 1st of July 1916 - same guy?

    Nice photo!

    How you can find this information so fast and in so short a time is absolutely amazing and I cannot resist commenting! I am really impressed! :cheers:

    But you see, it IS NOT fast...

    what is behind such "quick" replies is YEARS of buying up old reference books and then sorting the information out.

    SOME DAY, when all the information there is has all been gathered together and (this is the part that really gets awful) transcribed, retyped, and combined....

    SOME DAY all it will take is clicking on a name and there "everything" will be.

    But it takes years of work to get to that point.

    We must be crazy. :o:unsure::speechless1::rolleyes::catjava:

    Thank you, Rick and Glen, for all of the work you put into research. Without people like you, much would be lost forever.
