VtwinVince Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Gentlemen,Here is a CDV of my great-grandfather, Rittmeister Otto Finscher, taken in 1908. I don't know anything about his military career. Postwar he became a district judge, who because he wasn't an ardent Nazi, lost his job to none other than Roland Freisler, a family friend and later notorious head of the Volksgericht. Otto was born February 28, 1875 in Kassel and died on February 2, 1936, also in Kassel. If anyone could provide more details on his military activities, that would be great.
VtwinVince Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 And here's why I'm posting this under this forum: many years ago my great-aunt was cleaning out her attic and found this EK 1 belonging to her father, Otto. She sent it to me along with other family items, and it is my favorite EK. It has a nice patina.
VtwinVince Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 Here is the reverse, which is faintly marked WS to the right of the catch. I'm assuming this is a Wagner piece. Any comments are appreciated.
Paul R Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Family pieces are the best... I bet that these two items would look great, professionally framed together.
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Cant have been easy drinking a super-mocha-latte with double cream with a moustache like that !!!Nice cross. I also have one just like it found by my wifes aunt in an attic. Must be a WS thing :-)
Glenn J Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Greetings, not sure about the "Rittmeister".The only Finscher in the Prussian Army ended up as an Hauptmann der Landwehr. It is the same guy as he was originally a reserve officer in the Kassel based Infanterie-Regiment von Wittich (3. Kurhessisches) Nr. 83 and a judge in civilian life. Promotions:Leutnant der Reserve: 19.9.01 J2jOberleutnant der Reserve: 18.10.10Hauptmann der Landwehr I: 24.12.14In 1902 he was living at Nebelthaustra?e 1 in Cassel and by 1905 he was a Gerichtsassessor (junior legal official) at the same address. By 1911 he was employed as a municipal court judge in N?renberg in Kreis Arnswalde. I have him as serving in Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 233 during the war.RegardsGlenn
VtwinVince Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 Glenn, that's great information, many thanks for looking into that.
