Guest Rick Research
That naughty fellow up top is IMPROPERLY wearing his Crown 3 "50" ahead of his plain old Red Eagle 4!Closeup of a Prussian Crown 4th Class with "50" can be found at:http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=13198in the Prussian long service awards thread.I've split this off that because jubilee buttoned/disked Prussian Orders seem off topic and interesting enough to deserve their own thread. Here is Rechnungsrat Miersch during WW1:[attachmentid=63536]Although a native of Saxony (long service), a lifetime of book-keeping only got him the Albert-Knight 2nd from his home state. Not the clearest of photos, alas, but you can tell that is a 1914 "white black" EK with his WW1 Saxon War Effort Cross. That's a "50" on this old 1870 veteran's Red Eagle 4:[attachmentid=63537]

Mike Dunn
Not to sound stupid--what does the 50 stand for?? The number of times he earned the award or the years he had it?? Did they have to request the number or was it awarded automatically? Mike
Guest Rick Research
The number indicated the number of years of service the wearer had while still Pre-Retired. There were 50 and 60 and I think theoretically even some 65 and 70 buttons. You'd have thought for THAT kind of Devotion To Duty they could have coughed up, duh, a higher grade of something or other.
