John Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 There's a card/label holder on the side of the container, what exactly was in and on it ?Jos. I think it would have been section/squad allocation and markings for that particular unit. In thise days, most equipment that paratroopers used was collected on the drop zone, often with a different coloured parachute to identify its package. Regards, John.

Regards, John. But would a container like this actually be at the drop zone?Units etc could probably be stencilled onto the container, but the label seems to point at something that changes? Maybe checks, controls, condition etc. etc. ?
Kev in Deva Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 There's a card/label holder on the side of the container, what exactly was in and on it ?Jos.Hallo Jos, is it possible to see a better photo of the writting on the lid??thanks,Kevin in Deva
Jos Le Conté Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 (edited) I think and have been told that these containers aren't only for Para's, but also for pilot chutes, like seatchutes etc..It's for storage and to keep the chute dry.Lid says "Personenfallschirm" which is quite general.Lid shows some rust spots, but the complete container is in rather nice condition.Maker is ebr (19)44.Here's the writing on the lid,Kevin ..Jos. joetauchretter Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Hello, I do not think this was a container that would be used in a drop zone . I would tend to think this is a storeage container used in a supply warehouse etc . The top of the box states that it is a weather proof box for would looks like parachutes . The maker code is ebr , but I do not have this code in my book on German wartime manufacturers codes . Joe
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 I spoke to a German collector today who says each parachute had a booklet and control card, records kept of age, use, repairs etc. I am betting this was for that.

Interesting, I also recall that the drop containers were cylindrical in shape. Nice piece !! How much did you pay for it? Regards, John
Jos Le Conté Posted January 1, 2007 Author Posted January 1, 2007 (edited) Happy New Year...!I've paid 120 Euro for the can, don't know the price for such items, just wanted to have one,but I think it's a fair price. The booklet is too small to fit in the holder, besides that,I've a seatchute which has a special small pocket for the booklet, underneath the pillow where it is more safe.Think all other types will have a similar pocket somewhere.Booklet is pulled out a bit for the pic.Jos. Paul R Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Hi Jos,This is the first such can I have seen. I feel that based upon the rarity and the condition of the piece, that you did well. I dont think that this was a drop container either. Maybe for storgage in a transport for the crew?Paul
