Laurence Strong Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 In line with the Arty hat badges and maybe a Guards hat badge thread - hint hint - lets see what is out there for different wings and cap badges. Thanks in advance for your contribution To kick this off, here is the cap badge for the defunct "Canadian Airborne Regiment"
Laurence Strong Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 A set of Mess dress or what we call DEU (Distinct Enviorment Uniform) set of wings with a red maple leaf indicating para trained but not serving with a Para unit. These are a boughten item, usually thru the regimantal kit shop.
Laurence Strong Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Same as above but issued, they would either give you a metal silver maple leaf or a pair of wings with a white maple leaf, when you were part of a para unit. Hopefully James M will see this thread and post his set.
Laurence Strong Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Metal wing for wear in shirt sleeve dress, this set has the white maple leaf.
Laurence Strong Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Here is a mini set of wings that would be worn on the tunic pocket if the member had another set of trade qualifictions that were worn on the left breast in place of the regular wings.
Laurence Strong Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 The difference in size of the 2 metal wings. Thanks for looking, please post yours and lets see how the different countries evolved.
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I would have tried for some South African Pics... but I always loose sight as to when we were in the commanwealth... and when not...I guess our Kiwis and Aussies dont have any airborne forces ;-)
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Does this count? I dont know... lets try and see.....How many fingers am i holding up ?............Is that Brit, Aussie, Kiwi? I dont think it is Rhodesian?
Dave Danner Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 And since Great Britain is part of the Commonwealth...
Dave Danner Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 By the way, if any of you who are doubtlessly Commonwealthier than I can tell me which branches/units/dress those wings all correspond to, I would appreciate it greatly. I only know a few.
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 And since Great Britain is part of the Commonwealth...Yup... indeed... its pretty nice for us to allow them to stay... ;-)
Laurence Strong Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Very nice collection Dave, Thanks for showing, what are the last one's?
Tony Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Yup... indeed... its pretty nice for us to allow them to stay... ;-)Is that comment coming from your out of date Canadian passport or your Boer heritage?
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Is that comment coming from your out of date Canadian passport or your Boer heritage? I wonder what the Aussies say to a comment like that ;-)
peter monahan Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Seriously , but I can't resist. To summarize some cultural divisionsin the English-speaking world:1) Australians believe in looking out for your mates, Brits believe inlooking out for members of your club, Americans believe in looking out foryourself, Canadians believe that's the government's job.2) Americans drink weak piss-tasting beer, Canadians drink strongpiss-tasting beer, Brits drink warm beer-flavored piss and the Aussies willdrink anything with alcohol in it.3) When travelling abroad, Canadians resent being mistaken for Americans,Aussies resent being mistaken for Brits, Brits can't be mistaken for anyoneelse and Americans prefer to be mistaken for Canadians. Is there anyone I didn't offend? I can have another go, if need be.
Graham Stewart Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Was given the following N.Z. jump wings quite a few years ago. Have a couple more to post if uploading size allows.Graham.
Graham Stewart Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 This also came with them. Now I'm not up to speed on Commonwealth wings so maybe a Kiwi or Aussie member could help out here?Graham.
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Ooooh... the last one looks a bit funny... is it Kiwi Recon ?
Graham Stewart Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 (edited) Chris,Not a clue I'm afraid. Got them all given years ago and they been in the loft ever since. I was sure there was a set of N.Z.S.A.S. wings also, but can't seem to find them, as I recall them being different to ours.Any suggestions from our Commonwealth chums?Graham.
