Been to Singapore a few times. Cannot say I saw more than a few bits and pieces of British WW1 trios. What's the market like out there if you are inro serious collecting? And what sort of stuff do you find mainly?

Oh, I thought you meant collectors of Asian ODM. Not collectors of Asisn origin who chooect that Nazi stuff. OK.

    Hi Ed_Haynes,

I collect both Singapore Army & Third Reich Militaria. I serve for close to 3 years in the army here and really want to show u guys some of the neat patches/medal(only got one) & docs i got. Plus a cool poster of all the Singapore regimental colors ,Plus ... pics of my service :D . but until i feel that i can present them in a fitting way as ive done above that will have to wait.

BTW; From the tone of your statement i hope you dont think im biase or a Nazi nut. I collect Third Reich stuffs because of 2 things;- the excellent craftmanship & design plus the history behind it ( Im 80% complete in creating my website about the Monsun U-Boats in Singapore,Penang & Indonesia). I respect all militaria collectors rgardless of different collecting fields who are in this as a hobby and nothing whatsoever to do with politics.

    Hi Jim,

Wish we could have met while you were in Singapore. ;) For militaria collectors, market here is basically close to non

existence. Though i know ocassionally they are sold in the flee markets here. All i know is that there are a total of 3 Third Reich collectors ; 2 Singapore Army collectors . Ive been to all the important WW2 museum here and taken pictures for my website especially British/ Japanese militaria... I'll inform u once my website is completely done.

On another note i do know that in neighbouring Japan & especially China there are groups of guys who have the dough to buy really high end Third Reich stuffs!! Unfortunately because of the language barrier u dont see them in militaria forums though i do and have seen one chinese guy who posted his spectacular collection in the WAF forum. A jaw dropping collection....

    Cheers,

    Ibrahim,

    Singapore.

    Hi Ibrahim,

No problem. It is just that here, in the US, I do occasionally -- well, more than just occasionally -- wonder about many of those who collect Nazi stuff, whether they do so out of phaleristic and historical morives or whether they do so out of sympathy with the goals and ideology of the Third Reich. If you glance at some of the other militaria forums out there -- two come prominently to mind -- you'll see the fairly clear expressions of really unpleasant essentially "Nazi" ideas. Those who consider the SS to be no more than Boy Scouts make me wonder, but about them, the SS, or the Boy Scouts?

The items are history, and it is not their fault. Those who relish the ideas they represent are, to me at least, a source of concern.

    Hi Ibrahim,

yeah i figured out as much! Like i said I barely saw anything out there myself - not that I had much time I must admit as I was always there for around 5 days on biz! Doubt I'll be on that side of the world in the forseeable future but if so I'll be sure to give you a shout. Whereas I do find 3rd Reich very interesting I am more a collector of Soviet ODMs! Still, looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!

    Regards

    Jim

    Ibrahim,

Very nice collection, and very nicely presented! I don't collect Nazi-era stuff myself but they are cool pieces and you've brought them together in an effective and pleasing arrangement.

Please do post some of your Singapore militaria when you've had a chance to arrange them the way you want it...don't see much of that stuff around.

    A nice collection.

Although speaking of the discussion here of collecting TR militaria, I collect some (mainly postcards, Feldpost, etc) not out of sympathy with National Socialism but to honour the brave German Fighting Men of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS who did nothing more than fight for their fatherland just like any patriotic person of any other country would and prevent their memories from fading away.

Nice to see SS Sturmbannf?hrer & "mailman" Arthur Amend nicely displayed!

I don't think there is any PLACE where it is possible to find anything being collected any more. "Nothing" where I am either. We are truly global these days.

Curious: so what drove you to collect TR as opposed to, say, militaria of brave fighting men of Poland for instance? You are German?

One thing I have to give to the Nazi's, they were certainly good at building and consitently communicating a strong brand image. I suspect that is some of the appeal for many TR collectors?

This question puzzles many. And the answer is not present. Probably philosophy of fascism not national quality of one nation. This international movement. And if such civilized nation-German with delight has followed the Leader means in clothes of fascism that that is.I think about fascism negatively. However clothes and ceremonies of fascism are interesting to me. Simultaneously and me it is difficult to find examples of heroism Polish soldiers.
