    Morocco Order of Istiklal

The Order of Istiklal or Order of Independence is also a 3 Class Order, but despite it's an unenameled badge it's a very high ranking award, that the King of Morocco decide to award at its own discretion.

The Exceptionnal Class is a gilt medal. The 1st Class is silver (picture below). The 2nd Class is bronze.

    It was instituted 14 december 1966 (1st ramadan 1386).Dahir N° 199-66

    The reverse is blank.

As you can see Hassan II is wearing it on 1st place of its medal bar, alongside with Ouissam al Massira Medal (Green March Medal 1975) and the Medal of Military Merit (at right).

Of course Hassan II is wearing the Exceptionnal Class

    Morocco Order of the Throne

It is the 4th Highest Order of Morocco (after Order of Mohamedi, Order of Istiklal & Order El Ouala).

But Order of Istiklal & Order El Ouala seems to never have been awarded to foreigners.

The Order of the Throne : Ouissam el Arch was also created 14 december 1966 (1st ramadan 1386).Dahir N° 199-66

    It's a 5 classes Order.

The Exceptionnal Class consist of a gilded breast star (see below 1st picture) and a gilded sash badge.

This class is limited to 20 members.

The 1st Class is a silvered breast star alone & is restricted to 60 members.

The 2nd Class is a gilded neck badge & is restricted to 350 members.

The 3rd Class is a gilded breast badge with rosette on ribbon & is restricted to 1000 members.

The 4th Class is a silver breast badge & is restricted to 10.000 members.

    You cen see on 2nd picture a 3rd & 4 th Class.

You can see the slight difference.

The 4t Class is real silver & very sharp.

The 3rd Class is gilded metal and much recent.

During the 1st State Visit between Morocco & Belgium in the early 60ies King Baudouin was awarded the Collar of Order of Mohamedi and his brother Prince Albert was awarded the Exceptionnal Class of Order of the Throne.

Later in 1993 Prince Albert became King Albert II and during a State Visit to Morocco in 2004 he was awarded the Collar of Mohamedi.

    Emmanuel,

Thank you for posting these very useful pictures.

The Order of Labour is called "Ouissam Ash-Choghl" in French. According to English transliteration it is "Wissam us-Shugl".

Any idea whcih Moroccan order/medal this could be?

    Cheers,

    James

To complete the picture on Moroccan decorations, I have found out that this is the "Wissam al-Moukafaa al-Wataniya" or the "Order of National Recompense". It comes in three classes, Commander, Officer and Chevalier.

The picture above of the second class or Officer.

There is picture of the lovely Commander class in this article entiled "Un résistant juif marocain décoré du Ouissam d'Al Moukafaa" see the accompanying video: http://www.road90.com/watch.php?id=5YjYeduOn5

    Cheers

It is possible Morocco recently instituted a rosette to be worn on the ribbon of the Exceptionnal Class that you now own.

    Gents,

I have come across a reference to two Moroccan decorations that were allegedly awarded to an American Medal of Honor recipient during WWI.  He was a sergeant assigned to the 1st Division.  The only information I have to work with is the following, "Recognition by the Moroccan Government, two medals, Senior and Junior."

Might anyone venture a guess as to which medal(s) might be referred to here?  Thank you.

    Regards,
