reichsrommel Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) Hi, AllI have found a Soyombo Medal. I just want to ask the opinion of its authentivity. Thanks for your comment!Tang Si Edited March 8, 2007 by reichsrommel
Bob Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Number of reasons why I am in doubt about this one, such as:- wrong screwdisc- mint mark on reverse- the ring fixed to the ribbon is not as even in thickness compared with other ones- enamel on the medal itself appears to be putting more distance between the soyombo elements- don't entirely like the numbering on reverseHowever, I must say the enamel (also on ribbon) is quite good. Could it be that a Type 3 exists?Tang Si - do you own it? What is the provenance?
reichsrommel Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 Hi, Dear BobI have to say that this medal is not at my hand now. I just want to buy it and then sell it. It is on sale in a Chinese website.Tang Si
Ed_Haynes Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I must say I don't like this one much either. The number falls within a legitimate type 2 range, but those mintmarks?!As I am now in Ulanbaatar, I shall ask other more expert opinions.
Ed_Haynes Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Battushig has seen this medal. He didn't like it for a number of reasons, some very complex. When he say it, it had no mintmarks. These have presumably since been added. Run away from this one. Run very fast.

The one which should be avoided at all costs...Hi, WilliamDo you have evidence to prove that it is made in China? If you not, please do not say such word. All fake Mongolia orders are from their motherland!Tang Si Edited March 11, 2007 by reichsrommel
Riley1965 Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Guys, PLEASE let's not start with My country-vs-Your country or any variation of it. Tang Si, Yes Ed has met with Dr. Battushig on several occassions including his current trip to Mongolia. Doc
Ed_Haynes Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I have met with Battushig, spent much time with him in fact. He knows these fakes well, and I saw two of them for sale just this morning (one badly numbered "11" and two unnumbered, so far). Battushig knows the origin and, if anyone really wants to know, I will say by PM. I have no desire to get into a silly nationalistic spat. The award is fake and the origin is clear.
