new world Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 (edited) I would be interested to see Mongolian uniforms.I will start with Mongolian General uniform which I own. It's very unusual tunic! 1970-1980's vintage for a Lt. General of the Mongolian Army. According to a well known uniform collector it's very rare, in his many years of collecting he had never had in, or even seen, another Mongolian Generals item before. Comes with ribbons, tie and shirt too.William Edited March 22, 2007 by new world
Riley1965 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 WOW!!! William, That is a very nice uniform!!! It's the first that I've seen in a personal collection. Congratulations!!! Doc
Ed_Haynes Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Could we see a close-up on the ribbon bar and shoulder boards, please. Thanks.

new world Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 (edited) Ribbon bar. Can someone name awards to the General? Edited March 22, 2007 by new world
Ed_Haynes Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Thanks for taking the trouble to do these, William. A NICE uniform. It tempts me into things that have even WORSE storage issues!!The ribbon bar?1- ???, ???, Medal "We won"2- Soviet Victory over Japan, 40 Years of MPR, 30th Anniversary of Victory over Japan3- 60 Years of MPRThose first two ribbons are most bizarre. Possibly Honorary Medal of Labor? If the center stripe is in any way red, maybe 25 Years of MPR (but why two of them?).
Guest Rick Research Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 GREAT tunic with nice looking insignia! Are the buttons dated on their reverses the way Soviet ones are?
stephenmiller Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Are there any good photos out there of Mongolian army and air force officers in uniforms from the Battle of Khalkin-Gol up to 1991?Were the Mongolian air force uniforms similiar and in the familiar Soviet Air Force style?
Ed_Haynes Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 An interesting group of Air Force guys (in fairly non-standard uniform?) from 1935.
Ed_Haynes Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Just in, a 1960s/1970s (?) major general's tunic. Have shown his ribbon bar elsewhere. No naming found, but still looking.
Ed_Haynes Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Shoulder boards.I also have his greatcoat (when I can figure out the best way to scan it -- weighs a TON).
Riley1965 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 WOW!!! Ed, I LOVE it!!! I have yet to add a Mongolian uniform to my growing uniform collection. Doc
Guest Rick Research Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Oooooooooooooooooooo SPLENDID !!! The Soviets always dated the buttons on their uniforms from about 1954 (earliest I've seen such markings)-- are they dated on the tunic or greatcoat?
Ed_Haynes Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Good question, Rick.On both, they are Mongolian-made and have the number "69" on them. This is likely a date?
Ed_Haynes Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 The greatcoat. (Ignore the pants, they're Afghan.)
Ed_Haynes Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 And detail shot. I think this is a 'recycled' greatcoat from earlier, as the two top buttons on each side have been removed. We need to know SO much more.
Ed_Haynes Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 And the 'rear', badly backlit, that time of day.
rathbonemuseum Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I am so glad you asked!! Here is my 1945 Parade tunic:
rathbonemuseum Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 And here is a great period photo of Mongolian pilots towards the back half of the war. They wear M43 style tunics.
