Ferg1 Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Hi Guys, does anyone have a ray-backed two-piece wound badge? I have one in brassed silver ,pin has a tiny ' V ' stamped on it. The only other ray-backed example I have seen is in Niemanns book and that is a screw-back. If any one has an example could they post a picture or two? Many thanks,Ferg1.
Eric Stahlhut Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Here you are! 925 in pin and AWS mark in center of ray back
Eric Stahlhut Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 here is another type. a previous owner opted to clean off the tarnish.
Eric Stahlhut Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 asterisk mark on pin and vent hole directly below catch
nesredep Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Hello!I agree, nice wound badge. All the bestNesredep
A Collector Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The marking on the pin - almost looks like a rune to me.
Beau Newman Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Here is a similar one except marked "SILBER" on the pin.
Eric Stahlhut Posted April 10, 2021 Posted April 10, 2021 here's one that is often attributed to the berlin retailer friedrich sedlatzek, as they can be found with that firm's hallmark, and were available in both 800 silver and plated versions. this unmarked exa mple is magnetic with a copper wash, which was then silver plated. two vent holes
chuck Posted April 10, 2021 Posted April 10, 2021 Very nice and distinctive reverse on the badge. Regards, Chuck On a complete separate note does anyone know of a good book on WW1 wound badges?
Beau Newman Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 The only one I know of was written by William Hamelman in the '90's. It's pretty basic and the photos aren't that great but, it does cover WWI, WWII and the 1957 versions. I'm pretty sure it's out of print and used copies can be hard to find.

Beau, I have seen the book on amazon(?), and the review was poor. I guess it is a small niche collectable area that has not been written. Thanks, Chuck
