Paul R Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 (edited) Garth,I do have a question about these wreath only collar tabs. I have seen them in a green waffenfarbe as well. Are these the only two waffenfabe? What do the various colors mean in these tabs? (does pink still mean engineering and green still mean admin)What is the difference in the actual roles played(between the engineers that wore the standard propeller/wreath tabs and the Sonderfuhrer(?) tabs without the propeller)? I apologize for the questions, yet my only reference pertaining to the LW is the two volume Davis book pertaining to LW uniforms and insignia. This reference (unless I missed something) did not get into much detail in the above questions. Thanks again.Warm regardsPaul Edited November 28, 2005 by Paul Reck
Guest Rick Research Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 No propellers = Sonderf?hrer ranks?
Garth Thompson Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 The tabs without props or gulls are for wartime members of the various branches. They were designated a.K. or auf Kriegsdauer. Colors I've observed are Pink (engineers), Yellow (flight), Green (admin), burgandy (justice). Wreathes were either full for field grade or 1/2 for company grade. THere were 4 ranks as well as I can determine. 2nd Lt thru Major. Differant shoulder boards were worn. I've attached an example of the Flight branch tabs with two example boards.Garth
luftguy Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 Hi Garth,What is the difference between the tabs you show for Flying Leader Corps and the Oberstabsingenieur tabs?I am also in the market for the wartime type of ingenieur tabs, please keep me in mind if you come across them.Bill

The boards for the FLC are double colored pink underlay with a golden yellow secondary.Garth

I'm betting there are more we just haven't found them yet.The actual roles played by regular officers and the a.K. are probably very similar but the a.K. officers were not career military just called up for the duration. The best referance on the LW admin, specialists and the odder insignia is Angolias Uniforms and Traditions of the Luftwaffe vol II but it is very hard to find and expensive when you do.Garth

Am I correct in assuming that there was no reserve element of this area? Also, thank you for posting your flight and engineer examples. This is one area in my tab collection that has not even been addressed... yet. Also, thank you for your pics! I will definately have to find that Angolia series. On more than one occasion, my questions were answered with quotes from that reference! The funny thing is that I have the complete heer series(3 books), being a LW collector! Anyone up for a trade... ?I cant wait to see your collection in mass sometime!RegardsPaul
luftguy Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 I finally got a set of Hauptstabsingenieur.
Laurence Strong Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Nice Bill. I have seen a set of red (flak) aK officers on e-bay once, though that could be reason to question it's originality!
