Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 This one isn't going to blow too many minds but I figured I'd post it anyway. I just picked it up. It's an EK2 mounted on a single medal bar or parade mount. I pick these up when I come across them at a decent price. This one is marked KO, and it's actually a nice example overall.
Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Here's the rear of the KO. This is my second KO EK2.
Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Here's the full view, on my elaborate display board, the flap of a beer box.
Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 The rear of the device. It's in good shape. This is my fourth Imperial parade mounted example.
buellmeister Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Steve, The condition and enameled core on that one is definately worth a double-take. Regards,Joel
Paul R Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Very sharp medal and ribbon!! I have not seen more than a couple in that condition. A top shelf item!
Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Steve, The condition and enameled core on that one is definately worth a double-take. Regards,JoelSo you are saying the core is enameled? Can you elaborate?
buellmeister Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Steve, It look's as though the coating on the core has been enameled. There were many different core variations used by Konigliche Munzamt Orden and others for their Crosses. From this, It is my belief that some were enameled and most as we see them were of course, painted. IMO, i think that this one is one such variant. I have had several Crosses that were purportedly enameled and I believe your's is such a Cross.
Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 First, thanks for all the nice comments. I didn't think an EK2 marked KO would draw much attention, but it is a nice example. You are probably right about the core being enameled or something similar, as it has a diffrent look than some EKs I have. Is this a hard to find feature?
buellmeister Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Steve, I hope to think that I clarified things. There are fewer made this way thats for sure.Regards,Joel
Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 So how does this enameled process work? Is the core painted and then enamel applied, or is it just straight enamel over bare iron? I guess there is some sort of baking process involved.
buellmeister Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) Steve, Sorry my friend. I can't help you with the manufacturing process. Hopefully, others will chime in with their expertise on this one for both of us.Regards,Joel Edited November 21, 2007 by buellmeister
Motorhead Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 A really nice piece in perfect condition. But for sure it isn't enamelled! Some of the "KO" crosses where painted with a thick gloss paint that looks like enamel. You can find that on both classes.Sorry guys-no enamel here....but a wonderful EK!Micha
Paul R Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Micha,Can you post one of your enameled pieces, for comparison?
Motorhead Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 You mean enamel in the sense of "real"enamel? Sorry-I must pass.I've got a few variations of the '14 Ek in my collection, but no real enamel EK.Nearly impossible to get and bloody expensive if one would show up...Micha
Paul R Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Micha,I had no clue that they were that rare.
Steve campbell Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Thanks for all the replies to this posting.
