It's an EK2 mounted on a single medal bar or parade mount. I pick these up when I come across them at a decent price. This one is marked KO, and it's actually a nice example overall. buellmeister Posted November 21, 2007 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Steve, It look's as though the coating on the core has been enameled. There were many different core variations used by Konigliche Munzamt Orden and others for their Crosses. From this, It is my belief that some were enameled and most as we see them were of course, painted. IMO, i think that this one is one such variant. I didn't think an EK2 marked KO would draw much attention, but it is a nice example. You are probably right about the core being enameled or something similar, as it has a diffrent look than some EKs I have. Is this a hard to find feature? Is the core painted and then enamel applied, or is it just straight enamel over bare iron? I guess there is some sort of baking process involved.
