    Hallo KDVR

With regards the cross / medal, it is a commemorative piece, for service in a military veterans club,

and not an official issue piece, depending on where, the veterans were located, (i.e. village, Dorf, Town etc..etc..)

the state colours could be reflected in the ribbon colours.

Is there anything to the rear??

Landwehr IR 126 served with the 7th Landwehr Division, which served in Alsace through 1917, when it moved to the Eastern Front. In 1918, it moved to the Ukraine. It was made up of older men and not highly rated as a fighting force.

Is there a name and birthdate/address on the back of the dog tag? There should be. This looks like a custom-made M1914 dogtag-- usually the two hole are on top not one on each side.

The garrison town for Ersatz Bataillon LIR 126 was also Gm?nd.

No, not Oberbayern. The Cross reads W?rttembergischer Kriegerbund Gm?nd (with Umlauten!), so it's not Gmund in Bavaria but Gm?nd aka Schw?bisch Gm?nd. =)

If it is W?rttemberg then the ribbon colours could be Yellow and Black.

The colours of W?rttemberg are red and black, just a few ribbons are yellow and black, as well as Baden-W?rttemberg's (modern state in southwest Germany since 1952) flag is. ;)

    Hallo saschaw

now, I am getting confused, :speechless: what were the normal State colours for W?rttemberg as depicted

on the State buildings, say in the 1900's. I mean colours outside official military state medal orders awards.

As an example Bavaria's colours were predominantly Blue and White for example.

    Hallo saschaw,

many thanks for the clarification, not being from Germany

but having lived in Bavaria for 5 years, with the odd day-trip to

the north-western neighboring states, I could not remember their colours :speechless:

Kevin in Deva (Transylvania, whose colours are red on everything :P)

Hello and many thanks for your help. There is no name and no birthdate/address on the back of the dog tag.

    Hi Kevin in Deva,

"As an example Bavaria's colours were predominantly Blue and White for example."

    No, absolutely not!

He lived 5 years in Bavaria, and such a mistake :speechless1: .

The colours were White and Blue :D .

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavaria

    The White-And-Blue Heart-Shaped Shield"

And that is important for the Bavarians.

The colours of Pomerania (Pommern) were Blue and White.

    Regards

    Uwe

Sorry KDVR, no further information about the dog tag, but I think, it is not a dog tag for a person, I see no correspondence with contemporary pieces.

I agree I lived there for 5 years but as an Anglo-Irishman,

the precedence of the colours never meant much to me :P

Always reminded me of the Chelsea Football Club colours
