KDVR Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) - is this a German WWI dog tag - who knows something about the unit E/L. Inf. R. 126? Edited November 28, 2007 by KDVR
KDVR Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) - which medalband belongs to that cross? Edited November 28, 2007 by KDVR
Kev in Deva Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Hallo KDVRWith regards the cross / medal, it is a commemorative piece, for service in a military veterans club, and not an official issue piece, depending on where, the veterans were located, (i.e. village, Dorf, Town etc..etc..)the state colours could be reflected in the ribbon colours. Is there anything to the rear??Kevin in Deva
JBFloyd Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Landwehr IR 126 served with the 7th Landwehr Division, which served in Alsace through 1917, when it moved to the Eastern Front. In 1918, it moved to the Ukraine. It was made up of older men and not highly rated as a fighting force.
KDVR Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Many thanks Kevin in Deva On the backside is nothing written.
Guest Rick Research Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Is there a name and birthdate/address on the back of the dog tag? There should be. This looks like a custom-made M1914 dogtag-- usually the two hole are on top not one on each side. The garrison town for Ersatz Bataillon LIR 126 was also Gm?nd.
Kev in Deva Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Having done a quick search on the net:http://www.gmund.de/http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmund_am_Tegernsee.Seems its in Oberbayern, so it could be presumed that the ribbon would be Blue & White, the Bavarian State colours.Kevin in Deva
saschaw Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 No, not Oberbayern. The Cross reads W?rttembergischer Kriegerbund Gm?nd (with Umlauten!), so it's not Gmund in Bavaria but Gm?nd aka Schw?bisch Gm?nd. =)
Mike Dwyer Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Yeah, Kevin, my German's terrible, but I was thinking the Wurtt up at the top of the cross stood for W?rttemberg.
Kev in Deva Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Hallo Guys With the cross at an angle, I made out the top line to be: W ? f t l,I did enter Gm?nd with Umlauten in my google search and those were some of the hits I got back!!If it is W?rttemberg then the ribbon colours could be Yellow and Black.http://www.weller.to/rub/gmuend/gmuend.htmKevin in Deva Edited November 29, 2007 by Kev in Deva
saschaw Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 If it is W?rttemberg then the ribbon colours could be Yellow and Black. The colours of W?rttemberg are red and black, just a few ribbons are yellow and black, as well as Baden-W?rttemberg's (modern state in southwest Germany since 1952) flag is.
Kev in Deva Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Hallo saschaw now, I am getting confused, what were the normal State colours for W?rttemberg as depictedon the State buildings, say in the 1900's. I mean colours outside official military state medal orders awards. As an example Bavaria's colours were predominantly Blue and White for example.Kevin in Deva.
Kev in Deva Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Hallo saschaw, many thanks for the clarification, not being from Germanybut having lived in Bavaria for 5 years, with the odd day-trip tothe north-western neighboring states, I could not remember their colours Kevin in Deva (Transylvania, whose colours are red on everything )
KDVR Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 Hello and many thanks for your help. There is no name and no birthdate/address on the back of the dog tag.
speedytop Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 (edited) Hi Kevin in Deva,"As an example Bavaria's colours were predominantly Blue and White for example."No, absolutely not!He lived 5 years in Bavaria, and such a mistake .The colours were White and Blue .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BavariaThe White-And-Blue Heart-Shaped Shield"And that is important for the Bavarians. The colours of Pomerania (Pommern) were Blue and White.RegardsUweSorry KDVR, no further information about the dog tag, but I think, it is not a dog tag for a person, I see no correspondence with contemporary pieces. Kev in Deva Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 (edited) I agree I lived there for 5 years but as an Anglo-Irishman,the precedence of the colours never meant much to me Always reminded me of the Chelsea Football Club colours Kevin in Deva. Not sure what Transylvania's colours are, Red on everything??? Chris Boonzaier Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Hi,It is an early tag, I have seen a number of these. Usually regiment and comany and company number.I assume the one pictured is the Ersatz Batln. of the Landwehr regiment.Whats missing is the individuals number. Here is an example for the RIR37 (Top right of the page)http://www.kaiserscross.com/60401/60643.htmlI believe these are known as the 1878 model
Kev in Deva Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Uwe Not sure what Transylvania's colours are, Red on everything??? rolleyes.gifRed was a reference to blood, this is my little joke in reference to Vampires in Transylvania, Kevin in Deva.
