Mike Huxley Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 And one with documents that came in a round about way from the "Good Ricky"
Mike Huxley Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 By the way Rick ...if you need some of your old scans, after your computer loss ... I may still have some of them?Mike
Wild Card Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Gentlemen,Incredible stuff. That gold medal in post #20 is especially .One of the nice things about minis is that if you can?t have the full size thing, there is always...
Wild Card Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Seriously though, when it comes to minis, some order?s insignia, because of their detail and complex design offer a real challenge; but when done by a master craftsman the results can be quite pleasing.
Wild Card Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 The medal to this order is very impressive. There is just something about it that I have always admired. Full size this time.
Rod Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) Gentlemen.... I sincerely beg your patience. I have posted this bar twice before but I just have to do it again as it by far my favorite piece. It is a Rothe silver Henry awarded for the 1866 unpleasantness. Only 261 awarded. Thank you .... I feel better now!!! Rod Edited March 23, 2008 by Rod
Stogieman Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 Thanks Rod, I was hoping to coax that one out of the woodwork.... The only Rothe 1870 medal I've seen. I suspect at least one other here in the hands of a member but I will not blow his cover ;>)
Guest Rick Research Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 ".. from the 'Good Ricky' "No no no. HE's the Evil Ricky. I'M the Good Ricky. He was Bad even in the Good Old Days.

Yankee Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 How about post #31? Hi Wild CardThanks for the close up shot of the maker. I was amazed to see Rothe being the maker, were there any other makers from the 1866 & 1870 wars?SincerelyYankee
Ulsterman Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 And one with documents that came in a round about way from the "Good Ricky"Ah-I remember that one as well. I am glad to see it has a good home.
Steve K. Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I remember when a good portion of your collection went up for sale. I was caught off guard that friday morning with no "war chest" of funds to back me up......I swore after that day, I would never let that happen again!
Stogieman Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 And sadly, so many who didn't make it...
Mike Huxley Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Ah-I remember that one as well. I am glad to see it has a good home. The main document that went with the grouping
Wild Card Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Gentlemen,I finally coaxed this old fellow to come home for a couple of days to have his picture taken.
Wild Card Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Personally, I find the design and workmanship on the reverse of some pieces to be worthy of special notice; and this is one of them.Best wishes, Wild Card
Wild Card Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Gentlemen,When the St. Henry shown above was delivered, the medal shown below inadvertently came with it. Because it might be considered , I hesitated posting it but since there is a connection which I will explain, let?s take a closer look.Taking a quick glance at one of these medals, one could mistake it for a St. Henry medal: but, of course, the date under the bust tells us not so. What we have here is the silver medal to the Civil Merit Order, 1826 - 1876 model. The St. Henry connection is, as I understand it, that this medal could be awarded in cases which did not quite merit the St. Henry medal. Of a total of 780 medals awarded, two were awarded for military merit in 1866 and sixty-nine for 1870-71.
Wild Card Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Although the obverse has a similarity to the St. Henry medal, the reverse is very different.
Ulsterman Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 hee hee I think that came in a small box did it not?
Stogieman Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 This one did not.... either time it was issued.
Stogieman Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 My twin will hate me for posting this photo.... but there's only one way to appreciate this order when you cannot hold it in your sweaty (cotton glove encased) hands. My Roessner Commander's Cross 2.
Wild Card Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 hee hee I think that came in a small box did it not? Which one are you referring to?
