J Temple-West Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 This example, although sharply detailed and well constructed, shows the loss of finish found on the vast majority of flak badges by GWL.
ERIC Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Love that example John - not such an easy find these GWL's in any condition - Congrats on another fine pickup!ERIC
ERIC Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 If I may JTW, show my example that is at the other end of the spectrum, and has actually held its finish quite well. Definately not the norm for GWL Flak finish as you stated earlier. I did not want to detract from your fine badge John, but wanted to show one I was fortune enough to acquire with its 'wash' relatively intact.ERIC
J Temple-West Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Eric... I hoped you would post that one of yours. Soooo rare to see one in that condition.
Jos Le Conté Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Nice ones !Nice to see one of my ex's.... Jos.
ERIC Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Indeed Jos! This one will be in Marc's upcoming book.ERIC
woodeye Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 very nice pieces, i have only a unmarked without HK
Rosenberg Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 While enjoying both of the examples I was wondering why GWL did not use any Zaponal on zincers,is this not working due to material restrictions?
J Temple-West Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 While enjoying both of the examples I was wondering why GWL did not use any Zaponal on zincers,is this not working due to material restrictions?Rosenberg. "Zaponal" Please forgive my ignorance.... would I know this by another name?
Rosenberg Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 JTW,I am sorry for having used that name. What I meant was the laquer you often find on tombac GWL badges that saves their finish so extremly well. Zaponal is the patentname IMO. I have not seen a zinc GWL with that laquer as far as I remember-made me wonder if it is the zinc that makes the use of it impossible.Regards
