VtwinVince Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Gentlemen,I recently picked up a group of items belonging to a Luftwaffe officer named P. Hauff. It includes his EK 2 1914, Honor Cross with Swords, Luftwaffe 12 and 4 Year Long Service Medals, Austrian Bravery Medal, 1. October 1938 Medal and his Turkish Iron Halfmoon. It's a long shot, but if anyone has more information on this guy, it would be great.
J Temple-West Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I take it that there is some paperwork in the group of items giving you the name and rank of the officer? Anything else that could help, such as unit/feldpost stamps on citations, letters etc?How about posting pictures of the group? there may be something you?ve missed.
Paul R Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I would love to see this grouping as well! It sounds phenomenal.
nesredep Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Hello! Please post the group? All the best Nesredep
VtwinVince Posted April 19, 2008 Author Posted April 19, 2008 Sorry, no scans as my scanner is having compatibility issues with my new computer. No paperwork with the group, but the Iron Halfmoon is engraved with the guy's initials. I suppose he could have been an NCO, but I suspect no WW 2 service as there are no awards after 1938.
Guest Rick Research Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I would also render a guess that he was a F3eldwebel or Oberfeldwebel: the old army's XII medal replaced by the new army's longservice equivalenets after being called back up in September 1939.When you said "Austrian "bravery medal" that certainly implies an enlisted man, and the Wehrmacht 12 and 4 seem lesslikely as (E) officers awards. With that senioprity, he'd have already been an officer in 1914 and wouldn't have had an Austrian bravery medal.Which medal is it?
VtwinVince Posted April 19, 2008 Author Posted April 19, 2008 Hi Rick,It's the bronze "Der Tapferkeit" medal with the Franz Josef portrait, so I'm assuming a pre-1916 award.
