    Hi Dudeman,

I'm unable (no knowledge enough...) to state on these points. But, I have a book including a small chapter on this subject : "History of the Russian State in Awards and Badges" by Nicolai Gladkov (2004). These badges are covered in the Volume 2, dedicated to Soviet Union. And it shows a Naval version of the ribbon / badge.

This book is in Russian. My Russian is not good enough to allow a correct translation.

Maybe a Russian speaking Member could help in summarizing what is said, and whether the way this point is dealt in this book could help or not ?

    Cheers.

There is nothing shedding light on the issue in the excerpts you posted. They tell of the establishment of the Guards title, distinguishing title for individuals, and the description of the distinguishing insignia for Ground Forces and Naval personnel.

OK  . Looking at the pictures, I thought this book could be of help...

This doesn't really apply to this thread, but in an effort to break the spiral of debating the finer points of Guards colors, here's a neat badge from my collection.

Note the green verdigris down on the bottom of the badge...

Now here's the photo of the original owner!

This fellow was Lt Colonel Tolkachev. I love this photo of him, dated 1990. This is one of those groups that I'll go to the grave with.

The reverse of the photo. I almost tear up every time I read this and think about it. Here he is, a "war hero" and proud grandfather...

One last photo (I have to resist the temptation to scan all of them!)

Here he is in the middle of the photo at an awards ceremony in Germany, dated 1947... good chance he's wearing the same Guards badge as in the first scan... :ninja:

    Thanks Christophe!

    Dave,

Awesome grouping! I have never seen another like it! What are the odds... very same badge along with a photo of it in wear 60 years earlier!

I got a great deal on this one!

I bought it directly from Doug Drebik for about $500

I also just bought a rare Naval-Technical Service tunic for an Officer will post pics when I get that one...

    back...

I am looking to get one from each of the Communist nations(or even post communist versions) that had them. I know only of the new Federal Russian version that is currently in use.

If you are talking about badges currently in use, you would have to add Belarus (which you have) and Cuba (which you have) to the Russian Federation.
