Christophe
Wild Card,You made a very good point about its use!!! Just put this in perspective with its building period (see the medal, and the way it is designed...) and it should help, knowing the building is in Moscow... Ch. Christophe
Let's recap...Here are the questions :1. In which building is this architectural detail located ? Name of the building ?2. Where is it located ? Exact location in Moscow ?3. What are the two names this building got in its history, with dates ?Bonus : Who were the architects of this building ?What do we know :* The choice of the medal shown should give you an indication about the building date...* Wild Card rightly guessed it was an exhibition center...* Gagarin used to be in this building... and is still there... * It is located in Central Moscow !! Clearly inside the Outer Ring...* Some of you know and have visited this building...Good hunt and good luck !!! Cheers.Ch.
Bryan
I know, I know !!!It is located in VDNKh (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). It is the Space Pavilion. It is now called "Pavilion N. 32"It was build in 1966 Edited July 13, 2007 by Soviet
Ed_Haynes
Ah . . . but the VDNKh Space Pavillion has been emptied, all has been sold. The question is invalid! Edited July 13, 2007 by Ed_Haynes
Ed_Haynes
'Soviet" obviously didn't go in, as the same home and garden exhibit sill seems underway (as it was when I was there in summer '06), with all the space stuff gone to foreign and domestic capitalists. Nice space shuttle pub near Gorky Park, though. The ghosts of the Soviet space program are there (as they are throughout the bleaching bones of the sad VDNKh site), maybe, but the vampires of crass multinational consumer capitalism have driven then away and sucked them quote dry.I do think the victory is "Soviet"'s though. Christian Zulus
I do think the victory is "Soviet"'s though.Dear Bryan, congratulations to your victory at such a difficult question .Best regards ChristianBTW: Maybe commander Christophe can sum up the scores again . Christophe
I know, I know !!!It is located in VDNKh (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). It is the Space Pavilion. It is now called "Pavilion N. 32"It was build in 1966I think my question was probably too much difficult... Bryan did not fully answer it, but he is the first one to rightly identify the building !!!! So, Bryan is the winner !!!! Congratulations for your new victory!!! Here are the answers to the questions :1. In which building is this architectural detail located ? Name of the building ?It is the Pavilion N.32, also called Space Pavilion (Kosmos Pavilion). 2. Where is it located ? Exact location in Moscow ?It is located in Moscow, in the VDNKh Exhibition Center (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). 3. What are the two names this building got in its history, with dates ?In fact, it got more than 2 names, but 2 would have been enough to win...Its first name, in 1939, date of the building (hence the hint of the medal... ) was the Mechanization Pavilion. It was built for the 1939 exhibition. After WWII, the Pavilion was called Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture.Since 1964, it has been called Aerospace (Kosmos).Bonus : Who were the architects of this building ?The architects V.S. Andreev, and I.G. Tarakanov. The bulding has been built in 1939, and expanded (in its current shape and configuration) in 1954 (and not 1966... ).Here is a pic of the building post 1954.Ch. Christophe
Ah . . . but the VDNKh Space Pavillion has been emptied, all has been sold. The question is invalid! Hi Ed, The question was still valid as we talked about the building, not its current destination... And, there was a hint about Gagarin, that could have helped all of you.... Because Gagarin is still there!!!! He is here, in the circle... as during the glorious hours of the building...Ch.Pic : ? Christophe ?
