Dragomir Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Thanks to Emmanuel's help, here follows information regarding Myanmar awards. Here are scans of the front and back pages of the "Forward" Magazine. Alas, I have only b/w copies. The identification comes from the same source, claiming that "On 11 July 1978, the Council of State issued a notification (32/78) of provisions regarding titles and decorations.", which runs as folliows: Myanmar-1:1st row= Aung San Tagun, Pyidaungsu Tagun, Tagun2nd row= Aung San Thuriya, Thiha Thura, Thura, Decoration for Performance for Development of Socialist Economy, 3rd row= 1st class Medal for Excellent Performance in Agricultural Field of Economy, 1st class Medal for Excellent Performance in Both Fields of Democracy, 1st class Medal for Excellent Performance in the Industrial Field of Economy. Myanmar-2:1st row= Lanzin Zarni, Pyidaungsu Zarni, Zarni2nd row= 1st class Medal for Excellent Performance in Manegerial Field, 1st Class Medal for Excellent Performance in Social Field, Aung San Medal, Thiha Bala Medal, 3rd row= Medal for being Mentioned in Despatches, A-ye-daw-bon Medal, Medal for Organization for Independence. There is another text in English, titled "Titles and Decorations" and signed by one Soe Myint, explaining the succus of the system. There are "Titles" and "Decorations". Titles consist of Titles to be conferred for performance and service, being Tagun Group (Aung San Tagun, Pyuidaungsu Tagun and Tagun) and Zarni Group (Lanzin Zarni, Pyiudaungsu Zarni and Zarni), and of Titles to be conferred for valour and courage, being Aung San Thuriya, Thiha Thura and Thura. Decorations are conferred for performance and service, being organized as Decorations for Development of Socialist Economy (Medal for Excellent Performance in Both Fields of Socialist Economy, Medal for Excellent Performance in Agricultural Field of the Economy, with 3 classes, and Medal for Excellent Performance in Industrial Field of the Economy, also with 3 classes) and Decorations for Development of Socialist Democracy (Medal for Excellent Performance in Both Fields of Socialist Democracy, Medal for Excellent Performance in Managerial Field, with 3 classes, and Medal for Excellent Performance in Social Field, also with 3 classes). Next, there are "Tatmandaw" recompenses (actually Myanmar Armed Forces), which consist of decorations of valour and courage: Aung San Medal, Thiha Bala Medal, Medal for being mentioned in Despatches, A-ye-daw-bon Medal, Medal for Organization for Independence, Medal of Liberation, Good Military Service Medal, Medal of Good Son of the People, Medal for Sacrifice, Medal for Military Service to the State, Medal for Victory over Enemy and Medal for Battle in People's War.Police has own syspet of awards, being:Decorations for valour and courage: Yethiha, Yethura and Yebala (being three classes of the same award), andDecorations for Service: Yethurain, Yekyawswa, Yekyawthu (being three classes of the same award), Good Police Service Medal and Medal for Police Service to the State. I hope this will help to clarify rather murky information regarding awards of Myanmar. Yours,Dragomir
Ed_Haynes Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Much fascinating new information here and a lot to chew on.Thanks!
Hugh Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Here comes the picture No. 2.DragomirGreat stuff! Many thanks for posting. I've been to the border, but didn't walk across the bridge. Hugh
Dragomir Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 When I am at that, here is picture of the 1st Class Order of the Union of Burma.Dragomir
heusy68 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Hello Gentlemen,Unfortunately this piece is not in my collection, but in the collection of a friend. It is Order of the Union of Burma neck badge (2nd class). It is in gold and reverse is plain (except a rivet). That Order of Union of Burma was awarded to a minister of the ex-communist countries in the 50ies.It's the onliest I had the chance to have in hand, actually its size is more or less comparable to a C.I.E. (Companion of the Indian Empire).Emmanuel
Dragomir Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 This is very exciting. The 1st class badge I inspected had no enamel on petals, it is pure gold, and regarding the size - it is much smaller than I.E. I shall try to get somehow a better colour picture. The set illustrated b/w was awarded to Konstantin Popovich, once Tito's Foreign Minister.Emmanuel, you are a treasure trove.Dragomir
James Hoard Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 EmmanuelThanks for posting. This is wonderful to see, since I have only ever come across poor quality black and white photographs. This is actually the third class, Maha Thray Sithu or Commander. The second class consists of a breast star which is smaller in size than the breast star of the first class.Who was this decoration awarded to?CheersJames
khorgor Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 thanks everyone for posting these!!! Amazing to see that 2nd class. pure gold?? wowow I'll have to let someone else translate that one ilja. Unfortuantely the lady is out of house till next week
Heho Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 QUOTE (JBFloyd @ Mar 22 2009, 23:37 ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And the last batch. The one on the yellow/blue ribbon is labelled "Good Soldier Medal". The last came out of Myanmar, but looks like it's of Chinese origin (although probably a souvenir/good luck token sort of thing). This whole batch came through an employee of an NGO who travels extensively to places well off the beaten path. Ed, these will reappear at the end of May. Hello Mr Floyd, the medal at left ( good soldier medal ) has an incorrect ribbon, even if the ribbon is from Myanmar it is not correct. The correct ribbon for this medal is green with wide central red stripe and a very tiny black strip in the middle of the red one (it is exactly the ribbon you post on the top of this topic). I have been there in february 2006,but more important I spent 2 hours in their very boring Military Museum, where there is only 1 showcase with medals on display,so photo allowed, but you can take as many notes and darw sketches as you wish,so I did. I will post later what I have in Myanmar, but it seems the yellow ribbon with bleu-greyish edge stripes is fit for many medals of Police and Civilian working for the administration.Lots of policemen and civil civic ??? teams wear ribbon bar yellow with bleu edged stripes. On lot 2 the 45 millimeters "look a like" breast star is common to found there in Scott Market for 5 US $ and good quality. I will post more later, too bad the the phaleristica encyclopedia is not available any more ....? Could youn tell me why ? Emmanuel Emmanuel, I am new to this forum, but collect Burmese medals. Can you contact me offline at aadneeven2002@yahoo.com. Thanks
heusy68 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Hello Gentlemen, recently i was fortunate enough (I mean lucky enough) to get this award from Myanmar: Naing Ngant Gonyi 2nd Class (i was said 1st Class to be in gold, the 2 nd Class is metal gilt) It's not technically an Order but a title instituted in 2 classes in may 1980. Emmanuel
heusy68 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I also got a Medal for Excellent Performance in Managerial Fied 1st Class (I was said the date on reverse correspond to 1990 ?)
heusy68 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) I got also this Medal for Excellent Performance in Social Field 3rd Class (I expect comment because the central device should be something like a lotus flower and NOT a star). But I bought it such a way. The central star device is not the same model as the 3 stars in the Medal of Excellent Performance in Managerial Fied. I was said that medal was awarded in 2012. Regards. Emmanuel Edited May 4, 2013 by heusy68
heusy68 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I also got this fantastic : "Union of Burma Police Good Service First Class" attributed to U Aye Maung in 1322 ( last 8 months of 1960 to first 3 months of 1961 for us). It's not Long Service & Good Conduct, the text on reverse reads "Union of Burma Police Good Service". On obverse you have the words "Loyalty" at left hand side, " Concentration of the Mind" on right hand side & "Courage" on bottom. A fellow did some research for me (thanks Dave) and I got some text about it. With these information, I was able to make a sample of "reconstruction" of what should look like the ribbons. Of course I cannot guaranty that the shade of red & blue are accurate. I guess the red should be more burgundy than red. If anyone own such a ribbon, I would be very happy to purchase it. I guess a lot, a lot of such a medal were issued from the late 40ies to 1962 (Coup d'Etat of Ne Win), but how many have been melted ? Best regards. Emmanuel
ilja559 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Great finds !!! Emmanuel, may be You have information about this medal.
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Hello Ilja that medal with 6 pointed star in the middle is said to be Good Public Service Medal (it is found very often) and ribbon is correct. Emmanuel Great finds !!! Emmanuel, may be You have information about this medal.
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 That medal with 2 Palms is said to be "Public Service Medal for Long Service" Also easy to get Emmanuel
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) For that one I now have a positive ID 100 %. It's Union of Myanmar State & Order Reasturation medal (it's the name from National Museum lapel). It's dated on reverse (mine was issued in 1984) & that one is hard to get. Emmanuel Edited May 4, 2013 by heusy68
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) That one is Ye Bala, it's Police 3rd Highest Gallantry award. Mine is dated 1991 &ribbon is 100 % correct. Also very rare to catch (I remembered I paid 15 US $ in 2006), but when you watch ribbon worn by Police Servicemen or Officers you see the Good Public Service Medal ribbon & the Public Service for Long Service....sometimes the Law & Order Restauration.....but no such higher medal. Emmanuel Edited May 4, 2013 by heusy68
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) That one is said to be : "A Man of Good Nation" from the National Museum lapel (in the museum there is no ribbon). General Than Shwe is wearing that medal on its second row of medal (2nd from left) from what is seem to be a turquoise blue ribbon with 2 dark blue edge stripes and maybe ??? one center dark blue stripe. If anyone could help for actual ribbon it would be nice, maybe Ed knows more about. That medal is easy to catch (but ribbon on mine is 100 % NOT correct) Emmanuel Edited May 4, 2013 by heusy68
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 For this medal I do NOT have ID, but than Shwe is wearing it on its second row of medal (1st from left). If any one could helps.I would be glad. Emmanuel
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 And now a fantastic medal bar From left to right : Military Service Medal - Medal for Victory against External Enemy - Medal for Battle in People's War As you can see from 1st row of General Than Shwe Medal, he wear them in the same order. Emmanuel
heusy68 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Tha one is NOT an Order from what I understand, but a member of Armed Staff Command (General Than Shwe is wearing one that seems to be enameled, but maybe it shall be flash light reflexion). General Thein Sein who succeded Than Shwe is wearing a gilded version too. It's a 65 millimeters breast badge in metal gilt, in the center the star, anchor & wings of the armed force is a separate parts. It's nice quality.I got it in its blue carton box of issue with its miniature and a rank enameled insignia that I have joined here (blue with 3 gold stars) and 32 x 10 millimeters. I'am not familiar with rank insignia, if anyone could helps. Regards. Emmanuel
