Herr General Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Does someone know the full medal entitlement of Felix Graf von Luckner?
JapanX Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Hmmm 5 years after I don`t have full list, Only photos ... Like this one

JapanX Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 What really puzzles me (and this is why I found this thread ... in the process of trying to figure it out ) is that he has bulgarian soldiers cross for bravery in his medal bar (4th class)
JapanX Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Soldiers cross?! But he was promoted to Oberleutnant z.S. in 1911 (!!!) So theoretically he should get officer cross.
JapanX Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 + According to the Rangliste Luckner, Felix Gr.v. KL Seeadler KO4RM, EK1, RM, BMV4X, BrK1, BH, HH, LьH, MMV1, MStMV1, OK1, SA3aX, SsRM, BT4bX, ЦM3K, TL2X, UKDM And when I last time check BT4b = 4th grade 2nd class So how he got soldiers cross into his bar?! Any ideas guys?
922F Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Seem to recall a biography entry [not his autobiography or a Lowell Thomas] that recounts a meeting between Luckner & Ferdinand of Bulgaria. Luckner described himself [as usual, unclear whether modestly or in self aggrandizement?] as a simple sailor, 'by Joe!!'. Ferdinand presented him with a Bravery Cross as well as a Bravery Order as a result. Given Luckner's reputed typical attitude, he chose to wear the Bravery Cross rather than the Order. Cannot retrieve a citation and do not know whether this tale is true. However, such a circumstance could be similar to that between Emperor Dom Pedro II of Brazil and Russian Grand Duke Aleksander Mikhailovich in 1887 [reported in Once A Grand Duke, 1932, p. 98]. Dom Pedro II intended to present Aleksander an Order of the Cross but Alex asked for the Order of the Rose instead. Dom Pedro gave Aleksander both. A few sources state that Luckner 'enhanced' his actual award entitlements. He may have received additional decorations in the 1930s and afterward. An example, Luckner reportedly acted as Grand Master of at least one "Order of St. John, Grand Priory of America of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem" from 1962-66. Odulf Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Very interesting, I've always been intreagued by this man. Forgive me my ignorance, but what does "KO4RM" and "UKDM" stand for? Is it possible to have a scanned image from the Rangliste, with his entitlement?
W McSwiggan Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 One correction (I think) - he was not awarded the PlM. None of my references indicate he had that award including http://www.pourlemerite.org/ - the pictures suggest the Johanniter at the throat.
Dave Danner Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 KO4RM is the Prussian Crown Order 4th Class on the ribbon of the Lifesaving Medal. So he saved a second life after the first award of the Rettungsmedaille. UKDM is the Hungarian War Commemorative Medal.

I am familiar with this version http://www.pourlemerite.org/medals/medalsmistaken.html
JapanX Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 But I have a little problem with it. Actually two problems a) if it is indeed Johanniter then where is our crown? b) neck order of our Pirate has ring exactly like PLM has Cheers, Nick
