VtwinVince
I recently acquired an interesting spange from a member of the 'other website'. I'm familiar with all the medals except one. Unfortunately I can't post photos, but the bar consists of 1914 EK2, Hindenburg Cross with Swords (neatly slotted in to replace previous Honor Legion Medal), Prussian General Honor Decoration, Hohenzollern Silver Merit Medal, the unknown medal which I think is a Mecklenburg Silver Merit Medal (on light blue ribbon), Brunswick Silver Merit Medal, Saxon-Altenburg Silver Merit Medal and Russian Medal for Zeal. So far I haven't been able to find an image of the Mecklenburg medal, only one with bearded portrait, whereas this one is not bearded. Anyway, if some of the advanced Mecklenburg collectors have an idea what this is, that would be great. It is a very small medal with the arms of the principality on the reverse. I suppose a combination of awards like this would indicate some sort of court lackey.
Wild Card
Hello VtwinVince, Does your Mecklenburg Mystery Medal look like this? Mustache but no beard.

VtwinVince
You got it Wild Card, that's it exactly, whatever 'it' is.
Wild Card
You got it Wild Card, that's it exactly, whatever 'it' is. That medal is the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Silberene Medaille Friedrich Franz’ III. für Zivilpersonen, 1885-1918. OEK 1310. H/S 835a. While there are several medals which follow this format, this particular one is distinguished by its’ unique ribbon suspension ring. Yes, your bar does sound like one of a court lackey. Best wishes, Wild Card

I believe also that this was a prussian Lakai. Edited December 6, 2009 by seeheld

HeikoGrusdat
Great bar..... but for me it is a bit crazy that someone like this went into war as a soldier after serving in some kind of court position...
VtwinVince
You're right, Heiko, but the bar is absolutely genuine, no question. Obviously a very patriotic Hoflackei.
Phil Steele
Even to my inexperienced eyes that is a really nice medal bar... Phil
