Red Eagle Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Royal House Order of Hohenzollern Members Cross Measurements: Cross with crown: 58.56 x 39.49 mm Crown: 22.43 x 19.07 mm Medallion: 18.03mm Weight: 22.95 g Ribbon: 30 mm / non synthetic / uv-neg. Case: 101 x 69 mm The manufacturer sign in the case was used by Godet from 1930 / 1931. Therefore, this cross should not have been produced before 1930. Contrary to a normal Members Cross, this have medallion from gold. Also the ribbon has a difference. Contrary to the normal ribbon, in this ribbon have some threads wrapped with a metal foil. The metal foil is made from silver or aluminium. The ribbon does not necessarily belong to the cross, but was in the case. Origin of the Cross in case: www.bretzendorfer.de Similar pieces I have not seen before. I need some about opinions, or other facts about this cross or case. Who can say something about this cross, the case, or the ribbon? Regards Red
Daniel Cole Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 All of the HOHwX I have had that were period pieces all said IANUAR instead of JANUAR. I had a bronxe HOHX that said JANUAR. Don't know it its important or not. Also all of the ones that said IANUAR were also marked by the maker; ie JG&S, FR, W, etc. and 935
Red Eagle Posted December 26, 2009 Author Posted December 26, 2009 My Members Cross dont have a makers mark.
Daniel Krause Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Godet was the manufacturer for the Exile- Crosses of the HOH in the 20ies and 30ies. The quality of the cross also indicates for me a production long after 1918. So I think You might have here one of the quite RARE Exile- Awards! The Hohenzollern ribbon with silver threads belongs IMO to some Romanian Hohenzollern decorations. Greetings Daniel

Another hint is the GODET-logo without the title "Hofjuwelier" used until the mid 20ies. Here the HOH-Komtur to the Kaisers Leibarzt Generaloberarzt Dr. Remmert, awarded 27th of January 1932 (notice the similar logo): Edited December 27, 2009 by Komtur
Red Eagle Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 Yes, this is a very similar case. And it have the same structured paper in it.
Komtur Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Yes, this is a very similar case. And it have the same structured paper in it. And the same lock. Additionaly the paper verifying the time of Remmerts award as an exile decoration. Regards, Komtur. Edited December 27, 2009 by Komtur
Red Eagle Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 Thats sounds good. Is there a I or a J in the word "JANUAR"? It is made from gold or bronze gilded?
Komtur Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I am not quite sure, but it could be silver gilded or bronze gilded.
Red Eagle Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) The company's name in the spell "Gebr. Godet & Co." I can verifyed from the year 1931 on, but not before. Edited December 27, 2009 by Red Eagle
Wild Card Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Hello Red Eagle, For comparison, here is an example which is marked “W” on the bottom arm.
Wild Card Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Although the cross on top of the crown appears to be much more finished, in reality, there is a surprising amount of metal between the arms of the cross, but it is chiseled in such a way as to appear that it is not there. I hope that this makes sense. Incidentally, that ribbon with the metallic thread looks a bit like the Princely Hohenzollern Carl Anton medal ribbon with the colors reversed. Be well Red Eagle and have a Great New Year, Wild Card
Red Eagle Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Incidentally, that ribbon with the metallic thread looks a bit like the Princely Hohenzollern Carl Anton medal ribbon with the colors reversed. Hmmm, yes, looks like a smaller ribbon version from the Bene Merenti Order neck ribbon. Edited December 27, 2009 by Red Eagle
Daniel Krause Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Jup, right. The ribbon is not Romania. Their Hohenzollern had 3 equal stripes so it does not fit. Benemerenti might good be. Greetings Daniel
