NavyFCO Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 All: I haven't posted for a while because I haven't bought anything Soviet in ages. However, I saw this Red Star and couldn't pass it up. Anyone have any idea about the numbering? It clearly looks like a "9" in the front, but that's way out of any numbering range...thoughts? Dave
Bill Garvy Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) Engraver's error? Interesting piece. . . Edited June 17, 2010 by Bill Garvy
Ferdinand Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 It looks like a star in the 900K range, so it's probably an engraving error (a digit too much). Interesting. (Good to have you back by the way. A new beginning? )

(Good to have you back by the way. A new beginning? ) This Star was supposedly issued in mid-1945, so a 900K range one would certainly be possible (though most were issued in late 1944). I have no documentation of it (yet) but this one came in a group to an American soldier of the 69th Division. As far as a new beginning...LOL...until prices come back to what they were in 2003, I still can't afford Soviet collecting! Dave

Is the mint mark straight, curved up ... how long 8 mm 9 mm or 10 mm. Here you can compare the mint mark http://www.soviet-screwbacks.com/ Possible an MMD production in 1944 V2 best regards Andreas
Paul R Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Now that is a cool piece in it's own right! Now which number the the extra one? One of the 1s?

Dave So I'm not the only person who was priced out of Soviet! Have bought practically nothing since early 2007 now! :( Edited July 20, 2010 by JimZ
Paul R Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 So I'm not the only person who was priced out of Soviet! Have bought practically nothing since early 2007 now! You are definitely not alone. I have not bought any Soviet Awards since 1996!!! I remember the average price of a ORS being 5 dollars and ORB being 20 dollars. I should have bought more...
