FrontlineAntiques Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Hi guys Just been offered this peice (sorry for the bad pics its all i have) Its stitched to the ribbon of a Sudatenland medal, and I have never seen anything like it previously. Any one know anything about it? Dan
J Temple-West Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Hi Dan Strange, the eagle is reminiscent of an early Polish pilot’s badge, or pre-war German flying club insignia, but isn’t either of those as far as I can tell..... certainly not an official piece. I can only think that the addition of the eagle with swastika was in some way a patriotic gesture as a remembrance of the retaking of the Sudetenland.
Paul R Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I have never seen anything like it. Is there a way you can post an image of the back of the badge?

FrontlineAntiques Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Hi Paul No can do im afraid - the photos were all i had from the seller (bar one of the case), and it is no longer on offer as he sold it for almost double its asking price yesterday! Someone obviously knows a little bit more than me about the odd bird! I am a little miffed as it was on hold for me, but what can you do? As far as the eagle goes my feelings were also that it was Polish in origins, modified to carry the swastika charm. Dan
PKeating Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Medal and case are OK. The 'charm' fastened to the ribbon might conceivably be period but I doubt it. It's not a very 'German' thing to do. How much did it sell for? PK
