Shadow Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I have recently acquired an amazing collection of awards, medals, documents and photographs once belonging to Marshal of the Soviet Union, Kirill Moskalenko. These pictures are representative of the collection but by no means do they include all that I have purchased. I have documented proof for some of the items and I am in the process of looking for someone to help me obtain his award card to confirm the others. Of particular interest to me is a typewritten letter hand signed by Nikita Kruschev. Comments and questions are welcome and thanks for looking. Shadow
khorgor Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 holy gees mate. that collection must of cost you a fortune. congrats on such a wonderful collection!!! good luck to you in the future for finding the two hero awards for this grand fellow
Ferdinand Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I remember the (almost) complete Moskalenko group being on the market some 8 years ago. I believe it had most awards: HSU stars, Suvorovs, Lenins, everything, and the order booklet. Too bad it's now broken down in numerous small parts all over the world But still, a nice piece of history to have.
RedMaestro Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I too am speechless! I remember the (almost) complete Moskalenko group being on the market some 8 years ago. I believe it had most awards: HSU stars, Suvorovs, Lenins, everything, and the order booklet. Too bad it's now broken down in numerous small parts all over the world But still, a nice piece of history to have. I recalled that it passed through the well-known New Jersey dealer at one point, and I was able to find an archive of the sales listing. Please see the links below. http://web.archive.org/web/20040604025654/http://www.collectrussia.com/DISPITEMWINDOW.HTM?ITEM=9667 http://web.archive.org/web/20040604030413/http://www.collectrussia.com/DISPITEMWINDOW.HTM?ITEM=9668 http://web.archive.org/web/20040604031926/http://www.collectrussia.com/DISPITEMWINDOW.HTM?ITEM=9670 http://web.archive.org/web/20040604031735/http://www.collectrussia.com/DISPITEMWINDOW.HTM?ITEM=9669 Auke, I wonder if this is the sale you are referring to. In any case, Shadow, the awards and documents you have acquired were not part of the offering. Perhaps, then, this is one step closer to uniting the group. Congratulations on this amazing find! Alex
Ferdinand Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 That might have been it, Alex, but I believe I have seen the group in an even more complete form somewhere else (maybe before 2004?). The whole Moskalenko group was probably too large for any collector to purchase; let's just hope it doesn't scatter into even more pieces, as for example happened to the Marshal Koldunov group a couple of years ago.
Ferdinand Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 By the way, Shadow, the photo on the far right in your last picture is of Marshal Yazov.
Shadow Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Appreciate your help Ferdinand - I was wondering who that was... I wanted to do some research to find a connection between the two. Many thanks, Shadow
RedMaestro Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Here is a set of photos from Moskalenko's group currently for sale: http://www.collectrussia.com/DISPITEM.HTM?ITEM=23216
JimZ Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Part of what was undoubtedly one of the most impressive soviet groups ever. It is such a pity to see that such groups, which are otherwise unaffordable to 95% of soviet collectors, keep being broken up into smaller lots for monetary gains. Whereas it is great to own a bit of history, it is also a shame that such groups are broken up rather than being preserved by a collector with deep pockets, or a museum, where they can be enjoye by all. Having said that, a museum may perhaps not be the best place either. The amount of "replacement" pieces that I had observed in some of the groups held at the Central Armed Forces Museum in Moscow makes you wonder what happened to the originals. Jim
