christerd Posted January 6, 2012 Share Posted January 6, 2012 I don´t think I have shown this pic before have I ? What I can see is that he is a Hauptmann and some sort of Artillery I think ? I belive I can see a copule of crossed canons on his shoulderboards but what unit had these ? There is some sort of writing on the back but I cant read it more than 33 ..... and the photo is taken in Kiel ? Could anyone help me with this mystery ? Glenn J Posted January 7, 2012 Share Posted January 7, 2012 Chris, if I am not mistaken, the signature is Carl Lange, which makes the gentlemen the former Fußartillerie-Regiment Nr. 17 Leutnant (21.5.06 K). Hauptmann (18.12.15 V2v) and in fact this gentleman: http://www.ostdeutsche-biographie.de/langca85.htm He is listed in the 1938 edition of the Vereinigung der Offiziere und Beamten des früheren 2. Glenn J Posted January 7, 2012 Share Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Christer, Zahlmeister Ernst Paetzke also originated from Fußartillerie-Regiment Nr. 17 where he was serving as an Unterzahlmeister in 1914. He was employed as an Obersteuerinspektor in Berlin in 1938. He was still listed as an Unterzahlmeister in November/December 1916. And the later pic of Lange was perfect , he becam a real writer after the war and got the Bundesverdienstkreuz in 1958 !
