Yep, these Red Stars sometimes could really surprise you ;)

Here comes another such surprise: two symmetrical “K”

Mark “X” on Order of Alexander Nevsky (please note how this “X” differs from “bastard” wedge-shaped X’s that we saw on OPW orders)

Different orders – same technical marks ;)

But the really interesting question will be the time period during which these technical (and personal) marks were in use. Most probable it is period between 1927 and 1945. Indirect evidence that confirm that time period we could get from Mongolian phaleristic (which is simply a subdivision of Soviet phaleristic ;)).

Personal and technical marks time horizon

A very interesting perspective could be obtained from marks on early types of Mongolian Orders. As we know before 1991 all Mongolian orders were produced by Soviet mint. Naturally same personal and technical marks that we find on Soviet orders could be found on Mongolian orders. But these marks could be found only and only on Mongolian orders that were manufactured before 1945 (inclusive). Let’s discuss these marks and orders on which they could be found.

Mongolian Orders with personal and technical marks

In our following discussion I will use Khuujii Urnukh typology of Mongolian Orders. (see Khuujii Urnukh (2010) The Orders and Medals of the Mongolian People’s Republic (1924-1992). Ulaanbaatar, UBprint LLC)

Here comes the list of orders that bear our marks

Order of the Red Banner of Combat Valor

Type 1 variation 2 (with № on reverse)

(production started not earlier than 1927)

    Type 4

(production started not earlier than October 1945 and (most likely) ended no later than December 1946)
