Ralph A Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 ...PDQ. Not too many people know I have this. I don't remember ever posting it anywhere, but now I'm pulling the body from the cellar. I would scan some closeups, but how many K & Q RK's do you need to scrutinize? It's a "known" cross, one previous "celebrity" owner, w/Niemann COA and provenance. Enjoy.
ccj Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Amazing... I like the cross and the ribbon fastening device is interesting too.
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 So.... any hints as to who the winner was?? :-)
Ralph A Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Don, you are one of a very select group. Note how the ribbon loop has "tarnished" the ribbon, which is obviously an EK2 variety. This would make sense especially in the case of the recipient; he was a tanker and those panzer uniforms had some pretty narrow collars. A pic of the recipient is to the rear of this shot. I put together a selection of all his listed decorations, and some of the other things he might have owned. Also, see the picture of the German WW1 soldier in the helmet? A friend of mine took this picture in Germany back in the 70's. It is from a monument to the war dead, and is (I think) one of four heads each facing a compass point from beneath an obelisk... not sure. But I have forgotten which monument!!! Someone help me out. The photographer waited by the monument all day, so as to get the setting sun's light right. It was worth the wait, it's a great picture... very somber and evocative.
Ralph A Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) Here is the picture. So what is the monument?? And for Chris... Edited January 1, 2013 by Ralph A
