KM-SPAIN Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Very rare prewar white cap for interor dities. Very hard to find now.Regards.Eduardo.
gdlasalle Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Kapit?nleutnant Helmut Vogler's cap.He was IWO U567 (Kdt Engelbert Endrass) and U-212 Kommandant.Lost the 21 july 1944 in the English Channel, Sud of Brigthon.I wonder why Vogler wasn't wearing his hat when his boat went down.
Gordon Williamson Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 I wonder why Vogler wasn't wearing his hat when his boat went down.Very few officers ( and very few senior NCOs) had only one cap.
gdlasalle Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Thanks for the reply Gordon. I guess my dream of finding Gunther Prien's "backup" cap is alive and well. I'd like to respond to Darrell's quiery about removable tops. While Gordon is right about switching blue for white tops, Darrell also had it right that the white tops were removed for washing...hense the metal, removable, eagle. Sometimes a tag with the owners name was sewn on the inside of the top to match it to the body after cleaning. I have also seen white tops with the sewn eagle worn by U-Boat commanders.
KM-SPAIN Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Thanks for the reply Gordon. I guess my dream of finding Gunther Prien's "backup" cap is alive and well. About 10 years ago Malcom Fisher (Regimentals) sold a blue cap with the medals (including the u-boat badge with diamonds) and some other things from Gunther Prien to a South African collector, so at least one of them is alive and well.
smiler Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Hiya, Here is my one and only Bordm?tze, you can see the wear and 2 pin holes where the original cap emblem was placed. I now have the comet emblem from U-969 in its place. cheers smiler.

bob wirtz Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 This is the emblem for U-391. She made one patrol, didn't score any successes and was sunk with all hands on her way home in the Bay of Biscay in 1943.
bob wirtz Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Here is a standard (German-made) enlisted overseas cap in excellent condition.
bob wirtz Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Here's a close up of the insignia on the front.
bob wirtz Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Here is the RARE bird... a Kriegsmarine enlisted M1943 field cap. This is the one pictured in the 3-volume set of books on the Kriegsmarine. Apparently it came out of Bob Alexander's collection at some point.
bob wirtz Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Here is another view of the insignia on the front of the cap. You can also see the anchor-marked buttons.
bob wirtz Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Here is my Schloffelmutze (Donald Duck Cap) with "Marinenachrichtenschule" (Navy Signal School) cap band
bob wirtz Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Finally my Kriegsmarine Officer Service Cap (for mid-grade officers).
