Rogi Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 (edited) I finished this Academy 1/72 F-86F-30 "Mile's Bird" this morning, thought I'd share just in time too I've been running a bit late on updates in the modeling forum I visit but its been because of my constant work on this aircraft I love attending our competition here in Ottawa, CAPCON 2013 ! I really wanted a Korean War aircraft and Mike's Bird caught my eye. It took a lot of work and patience for it to come out looking like it did and unfortunately time flew by even when working on her. Sometimes you get 1 mistake you can't live with and you go back and fix it, well I had about 30 mistakes and imperfections on this model that I couldn't live with Here are a couple things done to her: Fully re-scribed panel lines Airbrushed, Checker Tail and Yellow/Black Identification stripes (plus the silver/metal finish) Scratch built Tail lights and seatbelt. Here is 1 picture for now until I get to uploading more tomorrow Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it Edited September 29, 2013 by Rogi
TacHel Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Sweet! I'm always impressed with guys who can make a 1/72 model look so fine! I used to build in the 1/32 and even 1/24 scales, easier to detail with my limited talents.
Laurence Strong Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Very nice Rogi. Did you use silver paint or foil for the body? Larry
Rogi Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Thank you both for the kind words I used a aluminium paint shot through my airbrush Really satisfied with the result. I'll get some close ups later
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 It is a really good idea to have the map as a base!!
Spasm Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Just so many things I'd like to try. This, and other great work on the forum, really inspires me to get into all sorts.A great model, great scratch built bits (the seatbelts on a 1/72 scale!!!!!!) and great paint. Well done Rogi. Looking forward to the other pictures.PS - airbrushing aluminium myself today onto a guitar, it's not the greatest of paints to use that's for sure.
Rogi Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Thank you all for the kind words, here are some more pictures that I took this morning Now its time to take some pictures and post that Yugoslavian Group I got in a couple days ago! First a picture of the seatbelts up close while I was building the model: and some finished shots this morning: Thank you all for coming in and checking this out
Laurence Strong Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Excellent work in the one true scale Larry

Rogi Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) Thank you all so much, your kind comments and support are greatly appreciated It was a very long process to get her to that stage I usually work in 1/48 and a jump back to my old 1/72 was nice the scribing of panel lines was by far the hardest thing I've done, but when it goes well it looks amazing, almost turned the house into a plastic sand box lol Thank goodness for blue prints and patience The biggest thing I learned on this project was to take my time, no rush and she'll turn out good now for my next model I'll have to make her even better Edited October 1, 2013 by Rogi
Rogi Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Thank you so much Boris your kind words are greatly appreciated. I've noticed that your other hobby is maps Have you been able to make a Korean Map?
Rogi Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 It would be interesting to see a map depicting the route through the Yalu River (where most of the air combat in the Korean war occurred) as well as some Military bases that are near the Yalu. It really depends how you could do the image. Either a full North/South Korea image with info. or a image depicting the Yalu River, and some of the closest air combat and airbases Would be interesting sorry for the delay in posting been very busy with school
